Working in the ECHL: small front offices, wide roles

ECHL clubs hire across ticket sales, corporate partnerships, marketing, game operations, and broadcast, with season-long internships at most clubs.

The ECHL is 30 clubs in the United States and Canada, two levels below the NHL. Most clubs are affiliated with an NHL team and its AHL club, which send players down. The club itself runs the business: tickets, sponsors, promotions, game presentation, and community work.

Front offices are small, so one person covers more ground than at a higher level. An account executive may sell season tickets, group outings, and sponsorships in the same week. Most openings are in ticket sales, corporate partnerships, marketing and promotions, media and broadcast, and game operations.

Internships and entry-level sales roles are the usual way in, and many full-time hires come from them. The season runs from October into the spring, so clubs do much of their hiring over the summer. This page leaves out game day and part-time roles such as ice crew and merchandise staff, which clubs fill locally. Apply directly to each club, where these roles post first.

Frequently asked questions

What jobs do ECHL clubs hire for?

Mostly business roles: ticket sales, corporate partnerships, marketing and promotions, media and broadcast, and game operations. Front offices are small, so most roles cover more than one area.

How do I get a job in the ECHL?

Internships and entry-level ticket sales are the usual ways in, and clubs often hire full-time staff from their interns. Most hiring happens over the summer, before the season starts in October.

Is the ECHL a good place to start a career in hockey?

It is a common first step on the business side. Small staffs mean a new hire handles sales, service, and game nights early, which is experience that AHL and NHL clubs look for.
