Who are we hiring?
The Vice President, Global Communications will lead the Kansas City Current’s international public relations and communications efforts as the club continues to expand its presence and relationships around the world.
Working within the established communications strategy, the Vice President will be responsible for executing global communications initiatives, translating the Kansas City Current story for international audiences, building meaningful relationships with media in priority global markets, and delivering communications plans around the club’s expanding international football ecosystem.
This role will lead international communications surrounding initiatives such as Teal Rising Academy Brazil, HB Køge, international competitions and events, global player-development initiatives, international partnerships and future global expansion opportunities. The Vice President will also work closely with the Communications team when international opportunities intersect with players, football operations, partnerships or broader club initiatives.
The ideal candidate brings deep international media relationships, a sophisticated understanding of global football and the ability to adapt the Kansas City Current’s story for different countries, cultures and audiences while maintaining a consistent organizational voice.

What will you do?
International Public Relations
  • Lead execution of the Kansas City Current’s international communications and public relations efforts under the strategic direction of the Communications team leadership.
  • Develop market-specific communications plans that build awareness and understanding of the Kansas City Current and HB Køge in priority international markets.
  • Translate broader club messaging into compelling narratives relevant to international football, sports business and mainstream audiences.
  • Identify earned-media opportunities that expand the club’s reputation beyond the United States.
  • Develop communications plans around international announcements, investments, partnerships, events and organizational milestones.
  • Ensure international communications remain consistent with the club’s overall brand, messaging and reputation strategy.
  • Help to develop communications operating procedures for Teal Rising Academy Brazil, HB Køge and other international player-development initiatives and relationships.
  • Partner with the Director, Team Communications on international storytelling involving First Team players, coaches, roster transactions and football operations.

Global Media Relations
  • Establish and maintain relationships with influential international journalists, broadcasters, football media and sports business outlets.
  • Build an international media network across priority markets, including Latin America, Europe and other regions relevant to the club’s growth.
  • Proactively pitch players, coaches, executives, ownership and organizational stories to international media in coordination with the appropriate communications lead.
  • Coordinate international interviews and media opportunities, including briefing materials, preparation and follow-up.
  • Identify emerging media platforms and influential voices within international football markets.
  • Serve as a primary communications contact for international media inquiries.

International Market Development
  • Partner with Marketing, Commercial, Content and other departments to support the club’s growth in priority international markets.
  • Develop communications strategies around international fan engagement, partnerships, broadcasts and events.
  • Identify culturally relevant storytelling opportunities that help introduce the Kansas City Current to new audiences.
  • Work with local agencies, communications partners and market experts when appropriate.
  • Ensure communications efforts are localized rather than simply replicating U.S.-focused messaging internationally.

International Player Storytelling
  • Partner with Team Communications to elevate the stories of the Current’s international players in their home countries and regions.
  • Build relationships with media covering international players and national teams.
  • Identify opportunities surrounding national-team call-ups, international tournaments and significant football moments.
  • Develop market-specific storytelling campaigns that connect international players with fans in both Kansas City and their home countries.
  • Coordinate with players and representatives to ensure international media opportunities align with broader player communications strategies.

Global Sports Business & Organizational Storytelling
  • Identify international media opportunities around the Current’s investment in women's sports, infrastructure, player development and innovation.
  • Position the club's international initiatives within the broader growth of women's football worldwide.
  • Develop relationships with global sports business and football industry media.
  • Support international communications around CPKC Stadium and other organizational assets when relevant to the global sports industry.
  • Identify conferences, industry events and international platforms that can extend the Current's global visibility.

Cross-Functional Communications
  • Work closely with the Communications team leadership to ensure international communications support the club's overall communications strategy.
  • Partner with the Director, Teams Communications on international football and player stories.
  • Partner with the Communications team on international business, partnership and organizational stories.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Content, Commercial, Community and Football departments on international initiatives.
  • Maintain an integrated international communications calendar aligned with broader organizational priorities.

Measurement & International Intelligence
  • Monitor international coverage, sentiment and emerging narratives surrounding the Kansas City Current and women's football.
  • Help to establish KPIs for international earned media, reach and brand visibility in partnership with the  Communications team leadership.
  • Provide regular reporting on international communications performance and opportunities.
  • Monitor global football and sports business trends that could create communications opportunities or reputational considerations for the club.
  • Provide the Communications team and organizational leadership with relevant international media intelligence.

What do you need to succeed?
Required
  • Significant experience in international communications, public relations or media relations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the global football media landscape.
  • Established relationships with international sports, football, business or mainstream media.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience developing communications campaigns across multiple countries or markets.
  • Ability to adapt messaging appropriately for different cultures and audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience managing high-profile international announcements and media opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of earned media and the evolving international digital media landscape.
  • Ability to work effectively across departments and geographic markets.
  • Strong organizational, project-management and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent judgment and ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving professional sports environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a communications strategy established by senior leadership.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and communications/media-monitoring platforms, currently the club communications team uses Meltwater.

Preferred
  • Professional soccer/football or international sports experience.
  • Experience working across Latin American and/or European football markets.
  • Existing relationships with international football media.
  • Fluency or professional proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with international agencies, clubs, leagues, federations or governing bodies.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or related field.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive communications or public relations experience, including significant international communications responsibility.
  • Experience working for a professional sports organization, global brand, league, federation, agency or entertainment organization preferred.

Special requirements of the job
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, inclusive of weekends, nights, matchdays and holidays.
  • Significant international and domestic travel will be required.
  • Must be comfortable working across international time zones and responding to time-sensitive media opportunities.
  • Ability to monitor organizational communications and international media coverage outside traditional U.S. business hours.
  • Ability to represent the Kansas City Current professionally with international media, clubs, leagues, federations, partners and other external stakeholders.
