Job Summary:

The Systems & Network Engineer is a hands-on technical resource for the organization's enterprise network and core infrastructure. This role engineers, secures, monitors, and supports network, firewall, wireless, virtualization, storage, server, backup, and related platforms. Working with Information Technology staff, Major League Baseball, Ardent, vendors, and business stakeholders, the engineer delivers approved infrastructure improvements and reliable support for daily operations, game days, and events.

Job Duties:

Infrastructure Engineering:

  • Design, implement, administer, and maintain approved network and systems solutions, including Cisco switching and routing, Palo Alto firewalls, VLANs and network segmentation, VPNs, wireless, virtualization, storage, servers, backups, monitoring, and core services.
  • Monitor infrastructure availability, capacity, performance, and security; troubleshoot complex issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Apply organizational standards, cybersecurity controls, lifecycle practices, and operational requirements while recommending improvements to reliability, scalability, and security.

Projects & Change Delivery:

  • Execute approved infrastructure projects, including deployments, upgrades, migrations, hardware refreshes, disaster recovery improvements, and enterprise platform implementations; prepare implementation, testing, rollback, change, and documentation plans.
  • Coordinate technical activities with Information Technology staff, MLB, Ardent, vendors, and external partners, and elevate material risks, dependencies, or decisions to Information Technology leadership.

Stadium & Operational Support:

  • Administer and support Busch Stadium wireless infrastructure, including Extreme Networks technologies; analyze health, performance, capacity, and security trends and coordinate approved improvements.
  • Serve as an advanced escalation resource for network and infrastructure incidents and support game days, special events, and planned after-hours maintenance as business needs require.
  • Maintain accurate infrastructure documentation, diagrams, configurations, standards, and operating procedures to support continuity and knowledge transfer.

Technical Collaboration:

  • Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to Information Technology staff and contribute engineering input to standards, capacity planning, and infrastructure roadmaps.
  • Evaluate relevant technologies and present recommendations, tradeoffs, and implementation considerations to Information Technology leadership.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise network infrastructure and systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, spanning tree, QoS, wireless networking, network segmentation, and VPN technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco enterprise networking and Palo Alto firewall platforms.
  • Experience supporting virtualization, storage, server, backup, monitoring, logging, and performance analysis technologies.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise cybersecurity principles and secure network architecture.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills across networking, servers, virtualization, storage, and security technologies.
  • Ability to execute multiple infrastructure projects within approved priorities and maintain clear technical and change documentation.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, collaboration, and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to access equipment throughout office buildings, data centers, telecommunications rooms, and stadium facilities and to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and scheduled maintenance windows as business needs require.

Experience/Education Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or additional directly relevant experience.
  • Seven or more years of enterprise infrastructure engineering experience, including serving as the technical lead for significant implementations.
  • Experience administering Extreme Networks switching and wireless infrastructure in stadium, venue, or other high-density environments.
  • Experience supporting technology in Major League Baseball or another professional sports organization.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as CCNP, PCNSE, VCP, or similar.
