OVERVIEW

The Durham Bulls are hiring a Senior Designer to help bring one of Minor League Baseball's most iconic brands to life. You will report to the Creative Director and work alongside a small team to create the graphics, content, and photography fans see every day. Will also help create the imagery that defines the Bulls'
125th anniversary season in 2027.

Photography is a core part of this job, as important as graphic design. With no staff photographer on our team, you will be the club's primary photographer, capturing everything from retail and merchandise to in-game action and styled campaign shoots. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable designing at a desk and shooting from the field level, and is excited to tell the Bulls' story through both.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

Design

  • Create graphics for social media, web, email, video boards, in-ballpark signage, print, advertising, and merchandise.
  • Design campaigns for theme nights, promotions, giveaways, and special events from concept through final files.
  • Build partner and sponsor creative that meets their goals and still looks like the Bulls.
  • Apply and help maintain brand standards so every piece looks consistent.
  • Prepare production-ready files for printers and vendors.

Photography

  • Own photography for the club, including:
  • In-game action, fans, and ballpark atmosphere
  • Retail and merchandise product shots for the team store and e-commerce
  • Stylized and studio-style shoots for campaigns, promotions, and social content
  • Community events, partner activations, and behind-the-scenes moments
  • Plan shoots, including shot lists, locations, props, and talent coordination.
  • Edit, retouch, organize, and archive photos so the team can find them fast.
  • Turn around game-day photos quickly for social and media use.

Motion and content

  • Create animated graphics and short-form motion content for social and video boards.
  • Partner with the video producer on graphics packages, lower thirds, and in-game elements.
  • Pitch content ideas that fit current trends and platforms.

Team and collaboration

  • Take direction from the Creative Director and help manage your own project load.
  • Work with ticketing, partnerships, promotions, merchandise, and community relations on their creative needs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4+ years of professional graphic design experience, in-house or agency.
  • 3+ years of professional photography experience, including live events and sports.
  • A portfolio that shows both design and photography work, including brand, campaign, and social.
  • Hands-on photography skills: camera operation, lighting, composition, and shooting in fast-moving live settings.
  • Strong photo editing and retouching skills in Lightroom and Photoshop.
  • Expert in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Strong typography, layout, and color skills, with sharp attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once.
  • Availability for nights, weekends, and holidays during the season, including home games and events.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Motion graphics experience in After Effects or similar tools.
  • Experience in sports, entertainment, or live events.
  • Video shooting or editing experience (Premiere Pro).
  • Product or e-commerce photography experience.
  • A team player who takes feedback well and enjoys helping a junior designer grow.
  • Organized, reliable, and proud of the details.
