Summary

The Buffalo Sabres are looking for experienced ice hockey coaches to help run the Learn to Play program on ice. The ideal candidate will have prior coaching and playing experience. Participants are beginner level and some may have only skated 1-2 times previously. Learn to Play is a program that provides a unique opportunity for families to join the hockey community and for participants to develop fundamental skills to help them succeed both on and off the ice. Created jointly by the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) and the National Hockey League (NHL). Learn to Play’s goal is to inspire youth and welcome more families into the hockey community.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Set up/breakdown drills and games
  • Instruct skaters in small groups and various stations
  • Answer any questions parents/participants may have about gear, scheduling, etc.
  • Demonstrate proper skating, shooting, and passing techniques to participants
  • Communicate effectively with participants

Experience and Skills:

  • 3+ years of on ice coaching experience
  • 15+ years of playing experience
  • Ability to instruct and demonstrate drills to participants
  • Ability to evaluate skill level and adjust curriculum to the needs of the group
  • Ability to communicate with players and parents
  • Working knowledge of hockey programs
  • Working knowledge of hockey equipment
  • USA Hockey membership and background screening is required.
  • USA Hockey Coaching certification is a plus.
  • Adhere to local and state COVID-19 guidelines

Compensation

  • This is a part-time, seasonal position with a pay rate of $50 per hour. The role supports our Learn to Play program from January through April, followed by our Continue to Play program from May through August.
