The Groundkeeper will be responsible for maintaining the playing field, practice facilities, and surrounding grounds to the highest standards of quality, safety, and aesthetics. Working under the direction of the Director of Field Operations, you will perform a variety of tasks related to turf care, landscaping, and facility maintenance to ensure optimal conditions for football games, practices, and events.
Essential Job Functions
- Perform routine maintenance activities on the playing field and practice fields, including mowing, edging, fertilizing, aerating, and overseeding. Monitor turf health and growth patterns to identify and address potential issues.
- Assist with field painting and marking operations for NFL games, practices, and special events. Ensure precise measurements and markings for yard lines, hash marks, logos, and end zones in compliance with league regulations.
- Monitor and adjust irrigation systems to maintain proper moisture levels and hydration for turfgrass health. Perform routine inspections, repairs, and winterization of irrigation equipment.
- Maintain landscaping around the stadium and practice facilities, including planting, watering, pruning, and mulching. Ensure that flower beds, shrubs, trees, and ornamental plants are kept neat and healthy.
- Operate and maintain turf equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, aerators, and utility vehicles. Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, blade sharpening, and equipment cleaning.
- Assist with field repair and renovation projects as needed, including sod replacement, infield grading, and drainage improvements. Ensure that playing surfaces are safe, level, and free of debris.
- Collect and dispose of trash and debris from the playing field, sidelines, and spectator areas before and after games and events. Keep the stadium and practice facilities clean and presentable at all times.
- Follow established safety protocols and procedures for turf maintenance, equipment operation, and workplace safety. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safety guidelines at all times.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or turf maintenance is preferred. Experience working in a sports field or stadium environment is a plus.
- Ability to perform manual labor and work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow. Stamina to work long hours and weekends during the football season.
- Strong attention to detail in performing turf care tasks, landscape maintenance, and equipment operation. Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively as part of a groundskeeping team. Willingness to assist with various tasks and responsibilities as needed to support the overall goals of the organization.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities, schedules, and work assignments. Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the football schedule.
Physical Aspects of Position (includes but are not limited to):
- Sitting for long periods of time throughout shift
- Occasional lifting and carrying up to 25lbs.
- Occasional walking, standing, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
