The Strength & Conditioning Coordinator is responsible for supporting the physical preparation, performance, and overall development of Sioux Falls Skyforce players. This role assists with the implementation of strength and conditioning programs, daily performance monitoring, injury prevention initiatives, sports science data collection, and the operation of the team's weight room and training facilities. This role works closely with coaching, athletic training, nutrition, and basketball operations staff to ensure players are prepared to perform at their highest level.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following are examples of the various functions required. The job requirements are not limited to the items on this list.

  • Assist in the implementation and supervision of strength and conditioning programs designed to enhance player performance, health, and durability.
  • Communicate regularly with players regarding training plans, performance goals, recovery protocols, and proper exercise execution.
  • Perform high-level injury assessments, develop criterion-based rehabilitation programs, provide performance-based physical therapy interventions, and deliver preventative care for Skyforce players throughout the season.
  • Collaborate daily with the Head Coach regarding player progress, workload management, and performance objectives.
  • Assist with performance testing, movement screening, data collection, and reporting related to player development and sports science initiatives.
  • Utilize and maintain proficiency with strength and conditioning technologies, including performance monitoring, testing, and recovery systems.
  • Work closely with Athletic Training staff to support injury prevention programs, corrective exercise implementation, and return-to-play protocols.
  • Support coordination efforts between Strength & Conditioning, Coaching, Basketball Operations, Medical, Equipment, and Team Operations staff.
  • Maintain accurate training records, wellness reports, testing results, and other performance-related documentation.
  • Operate, maintain, and ensure cleanliness of the weight room, recovery areas, and all strength and conditioning equipment.
  • Assist with setup, transport, and breakdown of training equipment for practices, games, team travel, and special events as needed.
  • Stay informed on current research, industry trends, and best practices in strength and conditioning, sports science, recovery, and athlete performance.
  • Contribute to maintaining a professional, safe, and positive training environment for players and staff.
  • Support player rehabilitation programs in coordination with the Athletic Training staff and medical team.
  • Assist with department projects, administrative duties, and other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Provide in-market support for Heat-related needs following the G League season, as organizational priorities and circumstances require.

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Performance, Exercise Physiology, or a related field required.
    • Doctor of Physical Therapy degree with the ability to obtain licensure in the state of South Dakota preferred.
    • Multiple years of demonstrated experience designing comprehensive strength and conditioning programs required.
    • Experience interpreting sports science data, dashboards, and longitudinal monitoring systems preferred.
    • Previous experience working with collegiate, professional, or elite-level athletes preferred.
    • Experience within basketball and/or professional sports environments is preferred.

    Knowledge & Skills

    • Strong knowledge of strength and conditioning principles, program design, sports science, and athlete development.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with athletes, coaches, and multidisciplinary performance staff.
    • Understanding of injury prevention, recovery strategies, and return-to-play processes.
    • Experience utilizing strength and conditioning technologies and performance tracking systems.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

    Certifications

    • Current NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification required.
    • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) preferred.
    • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required or obtainable upon hire within 30 days.
