Engineering Helper

The Miami HEAT Engineering department is hiring an Engineering Helper to oversee the maintenance, operation, and repair of furniture, fixtures, basic electrical items, etc. Performs skilled and semi-skilled duties, including painting, carpentry, minor electrical work, plumbing, and welding.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following are examples of the various functions required. The job requirements are not limited to the items on this list:

1. Assist in the repairs of all bowl seating, furniture, and plumbing items including toilets, sinks, water fountains, drainage pipes and sprinkler systems;
2. Assist with replacing and installing all doors, locks, windows and building hardware;
3. Assists in the repairs, replacing and rebuilding of various items, such as motors, compressors and ice machines;
4. Follow the preventive maintenance program, energy management program and standard operating procedures for all machinery and equipment;
5. Perform repairs and maintenance tasks such as painting, patching, re-lamping, replacing ceiling tiles, pavers, floor tiles, filters and belts as required;
6. Record and log all work performed, complete work order slips, and compile all required reports in a timely and complete manner through the building maintenance work order system;
7. Operate equipment, such as light trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, scrubbing machines, or other light power-driven equipment;
8. Assist other Operations Department divisions to expedite event conversions, as needed;
9. Report irregularities, discrepancies, damage, loss of property, and safety concerns promptly to supervisor;
10. Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed;
11. Assist co-workers in the Engineering and Operations departments with projects.

Education and/or Experience:

• One-year certificate from college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services, and technical requirements for the types of painting anticipated at the facility.
