Title: Scouting Supervisor  
Department: Amateur Scouting
Reports to: Director, Amateur Scouting 
Location/Territory:  VA, WV, PA, MD, and Delaware 
 
Overview: 
The primary role of the Scouting Supervisor is to be an expert in all amateur baseball talent (high school and college) within his assigned geographic territory (Georgia). This person takes pride in knowing all pertinent player information, both on and off the field. An individual in this position can expect to be traveling throughout their assigned territory or territories multiple times per week from roughly late January through August. The overall goal of the Scouting Supervisor is to support the Amateur Scouting Department by gathering subjective and objective information on players within their territory as much as possible leading up to the Amateur Baseball Draft (Rule 4 Draft) each year.  
 
Job Responsibilities: 
  • Provide written scouting reports to evaluate all amateur talent within your territory 
  • Collect and upload video of scouted players to Rays’ proprietary software when necessary 
  • Create and update player preference lists throughout the spring leading up to the Rule 4 draft 
  • Conduct pre-draft workouts with players of interest within your territory 
  • Manage all administrative tasks in a timely and professional manner including, but not limited to, scouting reports, expenses, schedule updates, high school stats, injury history, and player status. 
  • Conduct visits with players within your territory and assist with the execution of player interviews and assessments during the fall and winter months 
  • Attend various showcase events and tournaments during the summer and fall months as necessary 
  • Assist in cross-territory coverage as assigned 
  • Assist in pro scouting coverage as assigned 
 
Preferred Qualifications and Expectations 
  • Domain knowledge of the Amateur Scouting landscape, including but not limited to, the Rule 4 Draft, MLB scouting guidelines, and high school and college events schedule. 
  • Professional or Amateur scouting experience for a professional baseball club preferred. 
  • Experience playing college and/or professional baseball preferred. 
  • Collegiate coaching with recruiting experience preferred. 
  • Demonstrate a commitment to maintaining professionalism at all times 
  • Ability to work non-traditional and flexible hours per the Amateur Scouting/Rule 4 Draft schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays 
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment 
  • Verbal and written English fluency 
  • Ability to travel within the United States 
  • Active driver’s license 
  • May require relocation
