Position Summary

The Washington Nationals are seeking a Rehab Pitching Coordinator to help build a world-class pitching pipeline and lead the pitching component of our organizational return-to-performance process.

Working closely with the Director of Pitching, Pitching Coordinators, and Player Development leadership, this role will develop, execute, and continually improve a consistent approach to return-to-throw programming and pitcher development. The Rehab Pitching Coordinator will collaborate daily with Medical, Rehabilitation, Strength and Conditioning, Sports Science, and other Player Development staff to create individualized plans for each pitcher.

Medical will establish the diagnosis, restrictions, and clinical readiness. The Rehab Pitching Coordinator will own the throwing and pitching-development components of each plan while maintaining consistent communication with Major League and Minor League pitching staffs throughout the rehabilitation process and transition back to competition.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader who combines strong pitching knowledge with sound decision-making, clear communication, and a commitment to continually improving how we return pitchers to healthy, sustainable performance above their pre-injury level.

This position will be based at our Spring Training complex in West Palm Beach, FL.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead the pitching component of pitcher rehabilitation and serve as the Pitching department’s primary point of contact throughout the return-to-performance process.
• Develop and continually improve organizational return-to-throw protocols, throwing progressions, workload standards, and objective progression criteria.
• Design individualized return-to-throw plans based on medical restrictions, objective testing, player feedback, rehabilitation timelines, and long-term performance goals.
• Lead the daily execution of pitching rehabilitation at the West Palm Beach complex, including throwing schedules, progressions, calendars, and upcoming milestones.
• Integrate pitching development into each rehabilitation plan in alignment with the Nationals’ pitching philosophy and the player’s long-term goals.
• Use pitching technology, workload-monitoring tools, performance data, and objective testing to evaluate progress and guide programming decisions.
• Establish clear communication processes across Pitching, Medical, Rehabilitation, Strength and Conditioning, and Player Development regarding player status, progressions, and readiness recommendations.
• Own the transition from rehabilitation back to competition, ensuring receiving staffs understand each pitcher’s workload, routines, current capabilities, restrictions, and continued development priorities.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of pitcher development, rehabilitation, return-to-throw principles, and workload management.
• Demonstrated ability to design and execute individualized plans while managing multiple players, timelines, and changing rehabilitation needs.
• Proven ability to lead and align cross-disciplinary groups within a collaborative environment.
• Clear communicator who can simplify complex information and provide players and staff with a clear understanding of the plan, progress, and next steps.
• Sound decision-maker with experience applying objective data, pitching technology, and workload-monitoring tools to player development.
• Prior coaching or leadership experience in professional baseball or a high-performance baseball development environment.
• Adaptable, detail-oriented problem-solver who reflects the organization’s values and standards.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.

Compensation:

The projected annual salary for this position is $80,000-$110,000. Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s: qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements. Starting salaries for new employees are frequently not at the top of the applicable salary range.
