Position Summary

The Pro Scout will play a key role in the Pro Acquisitions department, supporting the departmental focus of evaluating, recommending, and executing player transactions. This role will focus on combining in-person coverage with available tools, information, and other departmental perspectives to support our player evaluations.

Primary Responsibilities

• Evaluate and produce reports on professional players, focusing on the Florida Complex League
• Maintain preference lists and other work product to contribute meaningfully to internal player rankings
• Combine live looks with objective data, video, and player analysis tools
• Understand, and continue to learn about, strengths and weaknesses of different player evaluation methods
• Provide feedback on tools and on the departmental player evaluation process
• Supplement player evaluation work with ad hoc analysis or research projects
• Brainstorm and propose actionable transaction recommendations

Qualifications

• Deep understanding of baseball player evaluation, player development processes, and front office
decision-making
• Understanding of analytical information and willingness to use it in evaluating players
• Excellent communication, time management, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, and highly confidential environment
• Deep alignment with and promotion of the organization’s values and vision
• Willingness to travel roughly 25 nights per year for meetings and out-of-region scouting coverage
• Ability to leverage technical programming languages and execute quantitative analyses preferred
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Compensation

The projected annual salary range for this position is $60,000 - $80,000 per year. Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s: qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements. Starting salaries for new employees are frequently not at the top of the applicable salary range.
