Reports to: Executive Producer, Penguins Radio Network
Location: PPG Paints Arena, 1001 Fifth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15219, with additional locations based on business needs.
Status: Paid Internship, Part-Time, In-Person
Schedule: Flexible scheduling within 20–40 hours per week, including primarily weekday mornings and availability for all Pittsburgh Penguins games. Hours may vary on game days due to morning skates and game-day production needs.
Compensation: $10/hour

Overview

The Radio Network Intern will assist with the on-air production of the Penguins Radio Network. This internship provides hands-on experience in sports broadcasting and will include opportunities to gain experience in live sporting events, game-night production, writing, audio production, social media, and podcast production.

The intern will work closely with the Penguins Radio Network team and on-air talent and will gain experience working within a professional sports organization and media environment.

Key Responsibilities

Radio & Game-Day Production
  • Assist with the on-air production of the Penguins Radio Network.
  • Gain experience covering live sporting events and supporting game-night production.
  • Assist with game-night promotional fulfillment.
  • Interact with on-air talent and support game-day broadcast needs.
  • Gather sound actualities from players and coaches.

Broadcast Operations
  • Secure guests for radio programming.
  • Engineer pregame show remote broadcast using Codec technology

Digital & Social Media
  • Upload podcasts.
  • Support social media for Penguins Live, including X, Instagram, and Facebook.
  • Video editing for radio social media.
  • Support the creation and distribution of digital media content.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Applicants should have completed at least two years of college or demonstrate equivalent education, training, or relevant experience in a related field.
  • Ability to work in person at PPG Paints Arena and at additional locations as needed.
  • Availability to work 20–40 hours per week, including primarily weekday mornings and all Pittsburgh Penguins games.
  • Major or minor concentration in communications, journalism, broadcasting, or a related field.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with remote radio broadcasts.
  • Experience with Adobe Audition or ProTools.
  • Experience with writing, audio production, or live event production.
  • Video editing.
  • Interest in sports broadcasting and professional sports media.

Penguins Internship Program Information

Application Deadline: September 28th, 2026
Application Review: Applicants will be reviewed on a rolling basis and reached out with initial communication by Friday, October 30th, at the latest.
Anticipated Internship Term: January 11th, 2027 - April 16th, 2027
Course Credit: Students remain eligible for earning course credits for their internship and will be responsible for ensuring that the internship meets the criteria of their program and/or university.
