Reports to: Lead Motion Graphics Designer
Location: PPG Paints Arena, 1001 Fifth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15219
Status: Paid Internship, Part-Time, In-Person
Schedule: Flexible scheduling within 10–15 hours per week, including availability during day and evening hours, as well as holidays and weekends.
Compensation: $10/hour
Overview
The Motion Graphics Intern will assist in the creation of motion and still graphics as assigned by the department supervisor. This internship provides hands-on experience across all facets of production and will include opportunities to create content for in-game, web, broadcast, in-arena, and special event applications.
The intern will work closely with production staff and primarily use Photoshop, After Effects, and Illustrator.
Key Responsibilities
Motion & Graphic Design
- Assist in the creation of assigned motion and still graphics as determined by the department supervisor.
- Create in-game elements.
- Create web elements.
- Create TV broadcast elements.
- Create in-arena assets.
- Assist with special projects to be aired in appropriate venues (e.g. videos for private events).
Production & Collaboration
- Work closely with all production staff to gain hands-on experience across all facets of production.
- Assist with physical labor, production planning, technical execution, and other tasks as specified by the project.
Software & Technical Experience
- Primarily work in Photoshop, After Effects and Illustrator.
- Experience in Premiere and Final Cut Pro, and 3D software such as Cinema 4D, Blender, or Unreal are a plus.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Applicants should have completed at least two years of college or demonstrate equivalent education, training, or relevant experience in a related field.
- Ability to work in person at PPG Paints Arena.
- Availability to work 10–15 hours per week, including day and evening hours, holidays, weekends, and Pittsburgh Penguins home games when scheduled.
- Demonstrated interest in motion graphics, graphic design, digital media, or a related field.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Photoshop, After Effects and Illustrator.
- Experience with Premiere and Final Cut Pro.
- Experience with 3D software such as Cinema 4D, Blender, or Unreal.
Penguins Internship Program Information

Application Review: Applicants will be reviewed on a rolling basis and reached out with initial communication by Friday, October 30th, at the latest.
Anticipated Internship Term: January 11th, 2027 - April 16th, 2027
Course Credit: Students remain eligible for earning course credits for their internship and will be responsible for ensuring that the internship meets the criteria of their program and/or university.
For the Motion Graphics Internship: Media assets and created pieces can be used by the intern for educational and non-profit-bearing, self-promotional purposes.
