Job description
The Traits - We are looking for a strategic content expert to join the Brand Influence & Identity team. You should excel at identifying meaningful insights, developing compelling narratives, and turning strategic objectives into clear, engaging content concepts. As a content strategist, you understand how strong ideas are shaped, positioned, and brought to life across platforms. You are confident pitching creative and developing early concepts. You solve problems, think proactively, and always look for the next opportunity to strengthen our brand and connect with our audiences.
The Team - The Brand Expression team defines, maintains, and expands the Thunder brand. As a creative partner to the various departments within the Thunder organization, we supply creative solutions, language, and design support for a wide variety of campaigns, using central brands and visual themes that help the Oklahoma City Thunder and Oklahoma City Blue basketball teams connect with our fans locally and around the globe.
The Role - As a content strategist, you are independently proactive and highly collaborative, a storytelling connector between the Thunder and Blue brands. You are experienced in the creative process, skilled at finding the story within a brief, and confident communicating ideas from the earliest stages through execution. You are responsible for developing content strategies, narrative positioning, campaign platforms, and concept presentations across multiple projects. You will partner with designers, editors, producers, and stakeholders to shape ideas, clarify objectives, and build creative solutions that meet the needs of our brand and audiences. This role has variety, and you will help tell the story of our brand through content that is thoughtful, distinctive, and meaningful.
In this role you will:
Manage personal workflow and multiple projects while meeting with team members to understand insights, objectives, and audience needs
Translate business and marketing objectives into content strategies, narrative frameworks, creative briefs, and compelling concepts
Generate and develop big ideas for campaigns, brand moments, social content, video, editorial projects, and other storytelling opportunities
Pitch creative concepts and narratives through presentation decks, verbal presentations, and other strategic communication tools
Develop early-stage conceptual work, including campaign platforms, messaging territories, storyboards, treatments, mood boards, and sample copy, to help communicate and advance ideas
Conduct, organize, and synthesize research to identify relevant cultural, audience, brand, and industry insights
Partner with designers, editors, producers, and cross-functional teams to guide ideas from concept through execution
Help establish clear narrative positioning, content architecture, and messaging systems that can scale across platforms and campaigns
Implement process-centric solutions and identify opportunities to improve how content and ideas are developed
Maintain a strong understanding of the Thunder and Blue brands, their audiences, and the broader cultural landscape
Perform other duties as assigned
What you’ll bring to the role:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work or military experience valued
3–5 years of creative content, strategy, copywriting, editorial, brand, marketing, or related experience in a professional setting preferred
Strong ability to develop content strategies, narrative platforms, messaging frameworks, and creative concepts
Ability to turn research, insights, and objectives into clear and compelling stories
Strong understanding of emerging media, content formats, audience behaviors, and industry trends
Knowledge of the creative and production process and experience collaborating across a project’s journey from idea through delivery
Strong writing, editing, presentation, and verbal communication skills with attention to detail
Ability to develop and present ideas through creative briefs, presentation decks, mood boards, storyboards, treatments, and other materials that communicate high-level concepts
Ability to receive and apply direction and feedback to strengthen or evolve creative concepts
Ability to work effectively under deadline pressure while managing multiple priorities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and presentation tools; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite preferred
Additional Details:
This is a full-time hourly position reporting to the Manager, Creative Content. Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m., and schedule may include occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays. The primary work location is the Thunder corporate office at Paycom Center in downtown Oklahoma City.
