Job description

The Carolina Hurricanes are seeking a Senior Director of Retail & Merchandising to lead and grow the organization’s retail and merchandise business. 

This role will oversee all areas of retail and merchandising, including team stores, e-commerce, product strategy, inventory, and off-site retail events. The Senior Director will be responsible for growing revenue, delivering a strong fan experience, and finding new ways to expand the Hurricanes brand through merchandise. 

The ideal candidate is a strong leader who can run a successful retail operation while bringing new ideas to the business through collaborations, limited-edition products, pop-ups, and other creative concepts. 

Responsibilities 
  • Lead the overall strategy and day-to-day performance of the Hurricanes’ retail and merchandising business. 
  • Oversee team stores, e-commerce, and off-site retail events. 
  • Develop strategies to grow revenue, improve profitability, strengthen the Hurricanes brand, and enhance the fan experience. 
  • Lead merchandise assortment, product development, purchasing, inventory, open-to-buy planning, and e-commerce strategy. 
  • Develop sales forecasts and promotional plans across team stores, e-commerce, and other retail events. 
  • Monitor sales, inventory, margins, and consumer trends to identify opportunities and make informed business decisions. 
  • Identify and develop collaborations with brands, designers, artists, and other partners. 
  • Create new opportunities through limited-edition products, exclusive releases, pop-ups, and other unique retail experiences. 
  • Own the financial performance of the business, including revenue, margin, inventory, labor, and expenses. 
  • Manage key vendor, licensing, and merchandise relationships. 
  • Lead and develop the retail and merchandising team. 
  • Work closely with Marketing, Creative, Content, Corporate Partnerships, and other departments on major organizational initiatives. 
  • Stay ahead of trends across sports, fashion, entertainment, and culture that can help grow and differentiate the Hurricanes brand. 

Qualifications
 
  • 8+ years of experience in retail, merchandising, consumer products, brand management, or a related field, with demonstrated leadership experience strongly preferred. 
  • Experience leading retail operations and developing strategies that drive revenue and growth. 
  • Strong understanding of merchandising, purchasing, inventory management, retail economics, and consumer trends. 
  • Experience managing multiple retail locations or high-volume retail operations preferred. 
  • Experience developing brand collaborations, limited-edition products, or other consumer-facing initiatives preferred. 
  • Strong financial, analytical, leadership, and communication skills. 
  • Ability to lead and develop full-time and part-time staff. 
  • Experience in sports, entertainment, fashion, consumer products, or another consumer-focused industry preferred but not required. 
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, including some nights, weekends, and holidays. 
  • Must pass a criminal background check
