SUMMARY:
The Scout supports talent identification and recruitment across MLS, MLS NEXT Pro, and Academy pathways. This role delivers live and video-based player evaluations, standardized scouting reports, and position-specific shortlists to support evidence-based recruitment decisions.

This position plays a critical role in expanding the club’s talent pool by covering domestic and international markets, college, and youth competitions, assessing tactical, technical, physical, and character fit within the club’s game model and squad needs.

The ideal candidate is a trusted evaluator with a sharp eye for talent, deep football knowledge, and strong reporting discipline who partners closely with the Sporting Director, coaches, and soccer analytics to deliver timely, actionable recommendations, including evenings and weekends during peak scouting periods.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Identify and evaluate players across MLS, MLS NEXT Pro, Academy, college, domestic, and international markets in line with club recruitment priorities and positional profiles.
  • Conduct live and video scouting assignments using platforms such as Wyscout, Hudl, and StatsBomb, ensuring consistent coverage and timely reporting.
  • Produce standardized player reports assessing tactical understanding, technical quality, physical attributes, and character, with clear recommendations for follow-up, shortlisting, or signing.
  • Build and maintain position-specific shortlists aligned to the club’s game model, squad needs, and transfer-window strategy.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Soccer Analytics to integrate event, tracking, and video data into scouting evaluations and target benchmarking.
  • Lead background work on targets, including character references, injury history, contract status, and availability, in coordination with the Sporting Director.
  • Present findings clearly to the Sporting Director, coaches, and recruitment staff through written reports, video clips, and in-person debriefs.
  • Maintain the club’s scouting database with accurate assignments, reports, ratings, and follow-up actions to ensure institutional memory and accessibility.
  • Attend matches, tournaments, training sessions, and trials as assigned, including extensive travel on evenings and weekends.
  • Monitor the transfer market for emerging talent, out-of-contract players, and loan opportunities that fit sporting and financial parameters.
  • Support trialists and potential signings through the evaluation process, ensuring alignment between scouting, coaching, and medical assessments.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and best practices across MLS, MLS NEXT Pro, and Academy scouting to elevate the entire organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Sports Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional football experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of scouting, coaching, video analysis, or recruitment analysis in elite football environments.
  • Deep tactical and player-evaluation knowledge across multiple positions, systems, and levels of play.
  • Proficiency with scouting and video platforms (e.g., Wyscout, Hudl, StatsBomb, Opta) and basic comfort interpreting data alongside video.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise reports and video-based recommendations under transfer-window timelines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships with coaches, agents, and club contacts while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to travel extensively, including evenings and weekends, with valid driver’s license and passport (or ability to obtain).
  • Proven ability to work independently as an individual contributor, managing assignments, priorities, and deadlines with accountability.
  • Ability to collaborate within complex, multi-team environments while maintaining alignment, trust, and accountability.
  • Ability to pass a background check and become Safe Sport certified.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • USSF or UEFA scouting or coaching licenses strongly preferred; advanced degree a plus.
  • Experience scouting across men’s first-team and youth pathways (MLS, MLS NEXT Pro, Academy, college).
  • Playing or coaching experience in professional or elite youth football.
  • Multilingual abilities (particularly Spanish) and established contacts across domestic and international markets.
  • Experience combining video scouting with data-informed shortlisting and recruitment dashboards.
