Role Summary

The EHS Manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing programs to ensure a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment for all employees. This role involves developing, monitoring, and enforcing environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures, and regulations to minimize risks, comply with legal requirements, and protect the well-being of workers and the surrounding environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Compliance & Regulation Management:
    • Ensure company compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.).
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations and best practices.
    • Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory agencies.
  2. Program Development & Implementation:
    • Develop, implement, and continuously improve EHS policies, programs, and training.
    • Manage hazard assessments, risk analysis, and safety audits.
    • Develop emergency response plans and coordinate drills to prepare for workplace incidents.
  3. Employee Safety & Training:
    • Organize and lead safety training programs for all employees, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Conduct safety orientations for new hires and ongoing safety awareness sessions.
    • Promote a safety culture by encouraging reporting of safety concerns and near-misses.
  4. Incident Investigation & Reporting:
    • Lead investigations into workplace accidents, injuries, and environmental incidents to identity root causes.
    • Document findings and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
    • Report incidents and track progress on the implementation of safety improvements.
  5. Environmental Stewardship:
    • Oversee environmental compliance, waste management, and sustainability initiatives.
    • Manage hazardous materials handling, storage, and disposal procedures.
  6. Continuous Improvement:
    • Analyze workplace safety data and trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Collaborate with leadership and department managers to drive continuous safety improvements.
    • Establish and review key performance indicators (KPIs) for EHS goals.
  7. Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with other departments (e.g., manufacturing, legal) to align EHS initiatives with company objectives.
    • Advise leadership on EHS-related risks and mitigation strategies.
    • Ensure EHS considerations are integrated into the company’s day-to-day operations and long-term planning.

 

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) are a plus.
  • Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in an EHS management role, preferably in a manufacturing, industrial, or high-risk environment.
  • Certifications: OSHA 30-hour certification, First Aid/CPR certification, and/or other relevant EHS certifications are preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of EHS regulations and standards.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office and EHS management software.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to conduct site inspections and audits, which may involve walking, climbing, and working in various environmental conditions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. and perform manual labor as required.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily production-based with occasional visits to office areas or conference rooms.
  • May require occasional travel to other facilities or locations.

Work Hours:

The standard 40-hour work week is the goal with this role. However, this role is needed to work beyond these hours, especially if there are safety incidents, inspections, or training sessions that require attention. In our industry, this role is expected to be available during shift changes and weekends to ensure compliance, as needed, with safety regulations. Flexibility is key in this role.
