JOB TITLE:  Minor League Strength & Conditioning Coach – Low A
DEPARTMENT: Strength & Conditioning
FLSA STATUS: Full-time, Exempt
LOCATION:  Delmarva, MD
REPORTS TO:  Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coordinator; Director, Minor League  Strength & Conditioning

JOB SUMMARY: The Baltimore Orioles are seeking a full-time Low-A Strength & Conditioning Coach for the 2027 Championship Season. This coach will lead the daily delivery of strength, speed, and conditioning programming while partnering closely with players, coaches, medical staff, and performance staff. The successful candidate will combine strong technical coaching with clear communication, sound judgment, and a player-centered approach that advances development and reflects the Orioles’ mission, vision, and values. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Primary duties to include, but not limited to the following: 

Program delivery 
  • Lead the daily administration and delivery of the Low-A affiliate’s strength and conditioning program in alignment with Orioles Performance Department principles. 
  • Coach and supervise weight training, speed, sprint, agility, recovery, and conditioning sessions. 
  • Teach, demonstrate, and reinforce safe and effective lifting, sprinting, and movement technique in real time. 
  • Lead activation, preparation, and post-game routines in the weight room and on the field. 
  • Build, update, and progress individualized player programs using designated digital programming platforms. 

Player development
 
  • Help players develop sustainable habits related to sleep, nutrition, foundational strength, movement quality, recovery, and training literacy. 
  • Set clear expectations, provide timely feedback, and support player accountability in a manner that preserves trust and dignity. 
  • Communicate, monitor, and support players’ off-season training programs. 

Assessment, data, and technology
 
  • Run force and movement assessments on a consistent schedule using VALD ForceDecks, ForceFrame, and NordBord, following department testing guidelines to gauge program efficacy. 
  • Monitor workload and adjust programming based on Catapult data. 
  • Implement designated performance systems and protocols, which may include VBT, GPS, speed gates, and strength and mobility assessments. 
  • Manage organizational data in athlete management systems and apps, and complete reports as directed by the MiLB Strength & Conditioning Coordinator. 

Throwing Program Integration & Periodized Programming
 
  • Plan lifting, sprinting, and conditioning work in coordination with pitcher throwing programs, including in-season and post-season progressions. 
  • Partner with pitching coaches, athletic trainers, and performance leadership so training loads appropriately complement starts, bullpens, recovery days, and individual player needs 
  • Communicate material programming changes clearly and in advance to pitchers. 
  • Develop pre-season, in-season, and off-season training cycles that integrate speed, agility, strength, conditioning, and movement.
  • Adjust mesocycles as player availability, workload information, assessment results, and organizational priorities evolve. 

 
Schedule, Travel & Work Environment 
  • Work a schedule that may include six or seven days per week during the playing season, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. 
  • Travel with the team for road games and attend organizational meetings, seminars, or camps as assigned. 
  • Be available for assignments at spring training, pre-season, post-season, or other player-development camps, including potential travel to Florida, the Dominican Republic, or other organizational locations. 
  • Work for extended periods in indoor and outdoor training environments and in varying weather conditions. 
  • Maintain training equipment and shared spaces in a clean, safe, and organized condition.

Physical requirements 
  • Comfortably lift at least 45 pounds, repeatedly, for multiple hours each day. 
  • Demonstrate primary weightlifting movements, as well as sprint and agility programs, including drills, mechanics and movement progressions with safe technique  
  • Remain on your feet and move throughout weight room, field, and outdoor environments for extended periods. 
  • Perform routine equipment setup, breakdown, cleaning, and sanitizing. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications 
  • Bachelor's degree in exercise science, kinesiology, human performance, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. 
  • Current NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification. 
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain/renew before the start date. 
  • At least two (2) years of relevant strength and conditioning coaching experience in professional baseball, collegiate athletics, or a comparable high-performance environment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and safely demonstrate weightlifting training, sprinting, agility, and movement techniques. 
  • Hands-on experience with VALD ForceDecks, ForceFrame, and NordBord assessments. 
  • Experience monitoring workload and programming based on Catapult data. 
  • Experience using digital platforms to create, deliver, and track athlete programs. 
  • Working proficiency with common business tools, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. 
  • Ability to meet the schedule, travel, work environment, and physical requirements of the role, with or without reasonable accommodation.  
  • Desire to continue developing knowledge of strength and conditioning, sport science, coaching, and baseball. 

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in exercise science, kinesiology, human performance, or a related field. 
  • Prior baseball playing or coaching experience. 
  • FMS, OnBaseU/TPI, and/or other relevant certifications. 
  • Experience with GymAware and other velocity-based training systems. 
  • Experience with athlete management systems. 
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish sufficient to coach, provide safety instruction, and communicate program expectations with players and staff.
