The Miami Marlins organization is seeking a Mental Health & Performance Consultant to support, sustain, and develop integrated programming for mental wellness and performance for players and staff across the organization. This role is embedded within Baseball Operations and operates in a fast-paced, high-performance environment requiring adaptability, clinical judgment, cultural competence, and strong collaboration.
The Mental Health & Performance Consultant may be asked to provide direct services, coordinate care, and contribute to program development under the leadership of the Director and Assistant Director of Mental Health & Performance. This position will have engagement across Miami Marlins minor league affiliate clubs.
Core Responsibilities
• Provide individual, small group, and team sessions on mental performance and performance psychology-based material.
o Initiate and maintain team mental performance workshops with players.
o Facilitate mental performance coaching education with coaching staffs.
o Develop and cultivate a caseload of individual mental performance clients.
o Complete ongoing needs-assessment related to mental performance coaching with players and support other teams as needed.
o Provision of services that demonstrate competence and adherence to relevant ethical codes (e.g., AASP, ACA/APA, etc.).
• Coordinate Mental Health and Performance services for injury and rehabilitation players.
o Build and maintain regular injury rehabilitation mental skills workshops
o Provide individual Mental Health and Performance consultation services to players.
o Participate in multidisciplinary rehab care team meetings to coordinate care for long-term injury rehabilitation players.
o Attend regular multidisciplinary care team meetings.
o Provide psychological screening for long-term injured players.
o Initiate and maintain injury mental performance group meetings.
• Initiate referrals to external providers for mental healthcare support as needed.
o Coordinate case management services for external service providers for players as assigned.
o Maintain and schedule appointments for academy players with external provider appointments.
o Provide logistical support such as text reminders for players, providing confidential office space for sessions, etc.
• Consult with players, coaches, teams, and staff on mental health, wellness, and performance optimization, not just for players, but also staff.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Athletic Training & Rehabilitation, Education, Player Development, and Coaching staff - including responding to and supporting mental health referrals and urgent or crisis intervention efforts in coordination with the Director and Assistant Director of Mental Health & Performance.
Skill Requirements
• Cultural competence and humility, including experience working within Latin American-influenced contexts.
• Knowledge of developmental and career-related concerns across the lifespan (approximately ages 16–50).
• Working knowledge of evidence-based mental skills training and performance psychology interventions.
• Working knowledge of group dynamics in sport and high performance & how people learn, grow, and develop in high-performance contexts,
• Ability to differentiate between mental health and mental performance needs and facilitate appropriate referrals.
• Ability to provide solution-focused, brief direct services that support individual psychotherapy, mental performance, leadership development, group programming, and psychoeducation for players and staff.
• Strong knowledge of and adherence to ethical and legal standards in psychotherapy, counseling, and performance psychology.
• Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and consultation skills across diverse populations.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to interpret and comply with Major League Baseball rules, regulations, and ethical standards.

Education & Experience Guidelines, Not Requirements
• Experience working with high performers and/or high-performance environments including, but not limited to sport or tactical populations
• Bachelor's Degree and/or Master’s Degree in sport psychology or sub-disciplines of intervention/performance enhancement, health/exercise psychology, cognitive psychology, and/or social psychology.
• Eligibility for mental health licensure in the state of Florida; OR
• Eligibility for Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) certification through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP); AND
• Experience working in culturally diverse or international settings.
Work Environment
• Must be available to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Travel required to Spring Training, affiliates, and road trips as needed.
• Requires daily interaction with professional athletes, coaches, and staff; professionalism, discretion, and a high level of respect are essential.
• Will require frequent use of technology ranging from cell phones and tablets to different software platforms and tools for communication and execution of job responsibilities.
