Position Summary

The Washington Nationals are seeking a Major League Physical Therapist to provide clinical assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation services for players with the Major League club.

This role will work closely with the Lead Athletic Trainer, team physicians, Physical Development, and Major League coaches to address physical limitations, support player availability, and integrate clinical care into each player’s daily preparation and development plan. The Physical Therapist will translate assessment findings into actionable treatment and exercise strategies and monitor whether those interventions are producing the intended changes.

The ideal candidate is a proactive, collaborative clinician who builds player trust, communicates clearly, and understands how clinical care connects to the demands of Major League performance.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform clinical evaluations and provide individualized treatment and rehabilitation for Major League players.
  • Identify and address movement, mobility, strength, and functional limitations affecting preparation, availability, or performance.
  • Implement organizational assessments and testing, monitor changes, and use findings to adjust clinical plans.
  • Partner with the Lead Athletic Trainer and physicians to coordinate daily care, clinical restrictions, and rehabilitation priorities.
  • Collaborate with S&C and skill coaches to connect treatment and exercise strategies with physical preparation and baseball activity.
  • Support return-to-performance progressions for players rehabilitating with the club and coordinate continuity with the Rehab Physical Therapist in West Palm Beach.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and communicate findings, progress, and concerns to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Contribute to staff education and the continued improvement of organizational assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation practices.

Qualifications

  • Degree in physical therapy and eligibility for applicable physical therapy licensure.
  • Experience providing orthopedic care and rehabilitation in professional baseball or a comparable high-performance environment.
  • Strong clinical assessment skills and the ability to translate findings into practical interventions.
  • Experience using objective testing to evaluate progress and treatment effectiveness.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Current CPR/AED certification and willingness to travel with the Major League club.
  • Sports or orthopedic specialty certification and Spanish proficiency are pluses.
