Jr. Video Editor

JOB SUMMARY:

Smith Entertainment Group (SEG), is looking for a Jr. Video Editor to join our dynamic creative services team. This position will primarily focus on editing a wide variety of short-form and long-form content for the Utah Mammoth (NHL), Utah Jazz (NBA), and the organization’s various departments and teams. This position will assist in the post-production needs on video shoots and all other filmed content as needed. The right person for this position should strive to be a master of their craft, well-versed in the post-production process, and telling concise, visually pleasing stories ranging from short-form to long-form content. The ideal candidate should be able to turn any filmed footage into a quality edited piece, ranging from quick turnaround recap videos to longer episodic features. This person should be able to see a project from concept to completion and bring new ideas to the creative voice of the team (including new tools such as Ai and other software upgrades). In this role, you will need to have a good sense of visual composition, take direction, be open to notes, and be versatile. You’ll be able to combine your passion for sports with video production at this job.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Edit videos surrounding the Utah Mammoth team such as player intro videos, hype videos, interviews, commercials, short-form and long-form pieces, as well as assisting on Utah Jazz branded projects where needed.
• Bring new ideas to life in the editing room and portray hockey in unique & interesting ways from concept to completion.
• Assist directors, senior and other editors, creators, and designers.
• Work closely with the Sr. Video Editors & Director of Post Production, by aiding
• post-production tasks in the pipeline, and working collaboratively with all team members.
• Being consistent and organized on project creation & workflows for all video features.
• Sync audio & create proxies on all intake for interviews, commercials, and other productions when assigned.
• Organize and set up projects and project folders when needed.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively in a team environment.
• Out-of-the-box thinker and problem solver.

COMPETENCIES:

• Editing an event, hype, and other videography-style videos is required.
• Editing short-form and long-form stories such as mini-docs, player features - etc.
• Understand different delivery mediums and specs (such as social media, TV, and more).
• Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (such as Premiere Pro, After Effects and Audition).
• Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator is a plus.
• Basic motion graphics experience is a plus.
• Experience and comfortability using Apple products and macOS.

Pre-Production

• Ability to prepare necessary materials in the pre-production process such as mood boards, storyboards, reference and inspiration guides, and more that are focused on the post-production process (such as effects, presets, looks, and more).

Production

• Ability to be a production assistant on-set as needed.

Post Production

• Ingest (experience syncing audio and creating video proxies).
• Color Correction (experience in Lumetri Scopes/Color, Color Mode a must) experience in DaVinci Resolve a bonus.
• Knowledge of conversion and style LUTs.
• Knowledge of Essential Sounds and Graphics Templates (such as mogrts).
• Ability to mix sound across multiple layers and sound design.
• Assist Senior Editor on best practices for video editing projects.
• Experience with Dynamic Link in the Adobe Creative Suite (AE Comps).

Camera & Equipment

• Understand frame rates, codecs, resolutions, and other technical specifications of cameras and video outputs.
• Occasionally stepping in as assistant camera operator on multi camera projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 4 Year Degree preferred.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of demonstrated professional experience working in a fast-paced production environment.
• Interest in the NHL and NBA is preferred.
• Flexibility in schedule (such as nights, weekends, and holidays).
• Experience editing quick turnaround projects.
• Be hands-on and proactive.
• Passion for the creative and storytelling processes.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• This person must be able to communicate and express themselves both in writing and verbally.
• This person must be able to observe, inspect, estimate, and assess.
• This person must be able to sit, stand, bend, walk, and climb stairs for long periods of time.
• This person must be able to lift 50 lbs.
