General Description:
The Houston Rockets are looking for a Community Relations Intern to support various initiatives that enhance and amplify the organization’s presence in the community. This internship provides exposure to community engagement, event planning, foundation support, fundraising, and day-to-day departmental operations within a professional sports environment. The ideal candidate is hardworking, enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and eager to contribute to meaningful outreach efforts.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Demonstrates our One Team philosophy of Passion, Accountability, Customer Focus, and Teamwork.
- Provide game day, event, community partnerships, foundation, and donation support.
- Oversee fan mail program to ensure the prompt written response to all fan requests.
- Maintain department databases and merchandise inventory files.
- Handle general office duties, including but not limited to data entry, answering phones, copying, filing, and maintaining mailing lists and donation requests.
- Administrative support for Community Relations Director.
- Receptionist training and other special projects as outlined by the Houston Rockets & Toyota Center internship program.
- Community Relations staff support:
- Assist with GiveBack and 50/50 efforts: executing administrative tasks associated with the programs, setup/breakdown of equipment & signage; cash handling; reports, etc.
- Assist with planning, implementing and evaluating all community relations programs.
- Support Community Relations staff with developing relationships with partners.
- Administrative Support for Clutch City Foundation
- Assist as needed
- Proficiency in Excel is required
- Must be organized, able to handle multiple tasks at one time, and have the ability to work with premium accounts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current College Student or Recent College Graduate
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations, charitable events, and community leaders is a plus.
- Flexibility to work long hours, nights and weekends – including home games required.
- Understanding and experience in Community Relations is a plus.
- Must enjoy working with people!
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, balance multiple tasks is essential.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel and familiar with Microsoft Outlook, and Access.

- The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, use handle or feel, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, communicate with others.
- The vision requirement includes the ability to review written and electronic materials in both digital and physical format.
- The employee must be able to transfer and move items for departmental needs.
- The employee must be able to adjust to changing work hours and locations as needed considering the strong focus on external communications and relationships.
