Position: Facilities Maintenance Specialist
Department: Facilities Operations
Reports to: Director, Arena Operations
Job Summary:
The Facilities Maintenance Specialist is responsible for supporting the day-to-day maintenance, upkeep, and overall condition of Rogers Arena.
Working closely with Facilities Operations, Arena Operations, and external contractors, this role coordinates preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, service work, and facility improvement projects. The Facilities Maintenance Specialist will help ensure building issues are identified, prioritized, and resolved efficiently, while coordinating work around the arena’s event and operational schedule. The role will also support facility and infrastructure projects from planning through completion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the day-to-day maintenance, upkeep, and overall condition of Rogers Arena.
- Identify, prioritize, and coordinate preventative and corrective maintenance, repairs, inspections, and service work.
- Conduct regular building walkthroughs to identify deficiencies, maintenance needs, and required follow-up.
- Coordinate work involving HVAC, electrical, plumbing, structural, life safety, controls, and other building systems.
- Coordinate contractors, trades, consultants, engineers, vendors, and service providers completing work in the facility.
- Track maintenance issues, deficiencies, and outstanding work through completion.
- Support troubleshooting of building and equipment issues, including urgent and emergency repairs.
- Coordinate maintenance, shutdowns, and project work around the arena’s event and operational schedule.
- Support facility, infrastructure, renovation, and improvement projects, including scope, schedule, budget, quotes, and implementation.
- Monitor project progress, costs, risks, deficiencies, and closeout requirements.
- Communicate maintenance schedules, project impacts, and operational requirements to affected departments.
- Provide regular updates to leadership and escalate significant risks, delays, or budget concerns.
- Support arena event readiness, renovations, upgrades, and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in facilities operations, building maintenance, construction, engineering, project coordination, or a related field.
- Experience working in a commercial, institutional, industrial, public assembly, or similarly complex facility.
- Working knowledge of major building systems, facility operations, and preventative maintenance practices.
- Experience coordinating contractors, trades, engineers, consultants, vendors, and service providers.
- Strong organizational, scheduling, budgeting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Strong communication and relationship-management skills.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and events as required.
- Experience in a sports and entertainment venue or large public assembly facility is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in facilities management, building technology, construction management, engineering, project management, or a related field.
- 4 years’ directly related experience
- PMP, Facilities Management certification, or equivalent experience is an asset.
- Experience supporting maintenance and projects in an active operating environment.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems, building automation systems, or related facility-management tools is an asset.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and during events as needed to support project and building operations.
- Working knowledge of major building systems and facility operations.
- Experience working with contractors, trades, engineers, consultants, and vendors.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, operational environment.
- Collaborative and strong communication and relationship-management skills.
- Experience in a large public assembly venue, sports and entertainment facility, commercial property, or similarly complex environment is an asset.
