Job Title: Brand Photographer
Reporting To: Creative Director
Location: Baltimore, MD
FLSA: To be determined following HR/legal review; creative professional exemption may apply
Salary: $75,000 - $80,000
Summary
The Baltimore Orioles are looking for a Brand Photographer who knows the most powerful image isn’t always the one of the perfect swing, but the look in a player’s eyes before the first pitch, or the emotion after a tough battle at the plate. This role is about making the moment, not just capturing it. From the action on the field to the personality behind the brand, you’ll help define how the Orioles show up in the world.
This is an experienced individual-contributor role reporting to the Creative Director, with no standing responsibility for managing a photography department or direct reports. The Creative Director sets overall brand strategy, campaign priorities, and final creative direction; the Brand Photographer brings photographic expertise, recommends visual approaches, and independently plans and executes approved assignments from capture through delivery. Across brand campaigns, social, digital, community events, and more, you’ll find the moments, details, and human stories that make our team unique. We’re looking for someone with a strong creative eye, a documentary sensibility, and an ability to capture emotion, character, culture, and the spirit of Baltimore.
Responsibilities
- Own the day-to-day execution of assigned photography work, including planning, capture, editing, metadata, archiving, and delivery, within priorities and creative direction established by the Creative Director.
- Partner with the Creative Director to develop and apply a distinct look and feel for Orioles photography, contributing photographic recommendations while working within approved brand standards and creative direction.
- Provide on-site coverage for home games, press conferences, fan events, community and partner events, and select road games, ensuring real-time delivery of photos for internal and external distribution.
- Bring a brand-first approach to game coverage by going beyond traditional action photography to capture details, candid moments, and emotional beats that make each game and season memorable.
- Photograph the emotion, personality, rituals, relationships, and moments that bring our players, coaches, and the game to life.
- Capture Birdland's energy, traditions, characters, and culture, highlighting the connection between our team, our fans, and Baltimore.
- Collaborate with the Creative Director, designers, and producers to bring
campaign concepts, player features, and brand storytelling to life. - Produce compelling imagery for apparel, retail, product launches, partnerships, and other lifestyle-focused initiatives.
- Deliver compelling photography tailored to social media and digital, advertising, in-ballpark experiences, and other brand channels.
- Partner with MLB, social, marketing, corporate partnerships, retail, PR, and other departments to understand content needs and deliver photography aligned with the Creative Director's priorities.
- Manage a comprehensive, organized photo archive system (e.g., PhotoShelter, Greenfly, ScorePlay etc.), ensuring quick access and retrieval for internal departments and external media.
- Plan and execute assigned headshots, portrait sessions, and posed photography for players, coaches, staff, and front office personnel.
- Lead assigned shoots from start to finish within approved concepts, schedules, and budgets. Independently handle location scouting, lighting, equipment preparation, on-site execution, image selection, editing, and delivery, escalating material scope or creative changes to the Creative Director.
- Coordinate approved freelance and contract photographers for specific assignments, including briefs, schedules, on-site coordination, and asset handoff. The Creative Director or designated department leader makes vendor selection, contracting, and performance decisions.
- Maintain assigned photography equipment and inventory records, and flag operational needs for the Creative Director or designated budget owner to review. This role does not own the department budget.
- Stay curious and push the work forward by bringing new references, perspectives, and ideas to the team – always looking for fresh ways to capture the game, our players, and our culture.
- Perform other photography-related responsibilities consistent with the role’s individual-contributor level, as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- 6+ years of professional photography experience, ideally in sports, lifestyle, live entertainment, editorial, or brand storytelling.
- A strong portfolio that demonstrates a distinct point of view, technical excellence, and an ability to capture authentic emotion, personality, and compelling moments.
- Experience shooting in both fast-paced, unpredictable environments and planned, concept-driven campaigns.
- A strong understanding of composition, lighting, color, editing, and visual storytelling across a range of settings.
- Experience with lifestyle, portrait, spatial, product, and merchandising photography
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and home games.
- Proficiency in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, along with experience delivering large volumes of digital assets.
- A proactive, adaptable approach and the ability to balance creative ambition with quick turnarounds and competing priorities.
- Advanced knowledge of DSLR and mirrorless camera systems, lighting equipment, and photo editing software (Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Photo Mechanic, etc.).
- Experience with photo archiving platforms and digital asset management systems.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
