Basketball Communications Seasonal Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Dallas Mavericks are seeking a Basketball Communications Seasonal Assistant to support our Basketball Communications team throughout the 2026-27 season. This role provides the opportunity to contribute to the group by supporting an active PR department with essential daily operations including but not limited to game notes, postgame notes, credentialing, press releases and other media outreach. The position reports directly to the Sr. Director of Basketball Communications.

LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP:

• Begins in October 2026 and concludes 2 weeks following the Mavericks’ 2026-27 season (duration could change because of performance and/or business needs).
• Must be able to work a full-time schedule including all home games, nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

JOB FUNCTION:

• Lead department efforts to prepare for home games, including making credentials and assigning media seating in the arena bowl and workroom.
• Help to manage the single-game credentialing process for media and guests.
• Update player and staff bios on the team’s media website, HoopsOMG.com.
• Contribute to game notes and postgame notes by updating and maintaining statistical, record and milestone information related to the team, in coordination with other team members.
• Monitor and track team-related media coverage and incoming media requests to share with the department.
• Organize and maintain the department’s shared folders.
• Contribute to press releases regarding trades, roster moves, injury reports and other special team announcements.
• Assist in the planning and coordination of player-related press conferences and media availabilities, under supervision.
• Keep the department’s private media X account, @MavsMediaInfo, updated with the practice schedule.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

To perform this role successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function as well as the following:

• Display proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Photoshop, InDesign, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Possess strong writing skills, including editing and proofreading.
• Demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail.
• Be proactive with the ability to work independently without constant supervision.
• Be highly organized and capability of working effectively in a demanding environment.
• Possess excellent project management and time management skills.
• Be discrete with sensitive and confidential information.
• Have a strong understanding of the NBA landscape and basketball statistics.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or another related field.
• Experience working for a professional sports team, college athletics program, or in a similar public relations setting.
