The Oklahoma City Thunder is seeking an Associate Counsel with corporate legal experience to support our legal department. In this role, you will draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements; support data privacy and legal compliance efforts; and maintain NBA and internal policies and contract templates. You will also advise internal departments on legal matters related to intellectual property, commercial agreements, regulatory compliance, data privacy, and other corporate legal matters.
In this role you will:
Serve as a resource for all departments on day-to-day legal issues and questions, including a broad range of legal, transactional and operational, and compliance matters and initiatives
Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including sponsorship agreements, vendor agreements, radio license agreements, ticket and suite license agreements, sweepstakes rules, leases, non-disclosure agreements, waivers, independent contractor agreements, and marketing and promotional agreements
Research various legal issues and questions and provide clear, concise, timely, and practical advice and recommendations
Identify, evaluate, and, where possible, mitigate liability issues with respect to events and activities planned by the organization
Support compliance efforts related to privacy, data protection and security, and other regulatory matters, including tracking and responding to data privacy requests
Support the Vice President, Corporate Legal and outside counsel on litigation matters
Assist the Vice President, Corporate Legal with corporate governance matters
Assist with maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as NBA rules and regulations
Form and maintain connections within the community and represent the Thunder as an ambassador of our culture and values
Support the continuous improvement of internal policies, processes, forms, and templates for internal business teams and legal department processes
Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned
What you’ll bring to the role:
Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association (ABA)-accredited law school
Three to five years of experience as in-house counsel or at a law firm
Licensed, or ability to become licensed, to practice law in the State of Oklahoma and in good standing with the Oklahoma Bar Association
Experience negotiating a variety of contracts, commercial agreements, and other legal documents
Data privacy or real estate experience is a plus
Experience adapting to changing needs within a growing legal department and organization
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with experience managing multiple priorities simultaneously
Commitment to continuous learning and developing new competencies as business and legal needs evolve
Effective collaboration with other departments and organizations, supported by strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and listening skills
Sound judgment and decision-making skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and capacity to learn required business systems
Additional Details:
This is a full-time, salary position reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Legal. The primary work location is the Paycom Center in downtown Oklahoma City. The work schedule includes regular office hours, with nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
