The Assistant Athletic Trainer/Rehabilitation for the Dallas Mavericks is responsible for assisting in the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions affecting the team's athletes. JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in the design and implementation of injury prevention programs, including strength and conditioning exercises, flexibility routines, and other preventative measures tailored to individual athletes.
- Provide immediate and effective treatment of injuries during practices, games, and training sessions. Conduct thorough injury assessments and document findings to guide treatment plans.
- Develop and implement customized rehabilitation programs for injured athletes, focusing on safe and effective recovery strategies to expedite return-to-play timelines.
- Work closely with the Head Athletic Trainer, team physicians, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to player health.
- Track and monitor the progress of injured athletes throughout their recovery, adjusting rehabilitation programs as necessary and reporting updates to the coaching staff and medical team.
- Maintain detailed and accurate medical records for all athletes, including injury reports, treatment logs, and rehabilitation progress.
- Accompany the team during road games and training camps, providing on-site medical support and injury management as needed.
- Educate athletes on injury prevention techniques, proper nutrition, and overall health management. Communicate effectively with players, coaches, and medical staff regarding injury status and recovery timelines.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
To perform this role successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function as well as the following:
- Comprehensive understanding of sports-related injuries, prevention techniques, and rehabilitation methods specific to basketball.
- Proficient in manual therapy techniques, taping, bracing, and other modalities used in the treatment of athletic injuries.
- Ability to communicate effectively with athletes, coaches, and medical staff, providing clear guidance and updates on injury status and treatment plans.
- Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team, with the ability to contribute positively to a high-performance environment.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing multiple responsibilities and adjusting to the demands of the team’s schedule.
- Strong organizational skills with a focus on maintaining accurate records and monitoring athlete progress closely.
- Capable of performing physical tasks associated with athletic training, including lifting, carrying equipment, and standing for extended periods.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Current NATABOC certification as an Athletic Trainer.
- Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the state of Texas.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as an athletic trainer, preferably in a professional sports setting.
- CPR/AED Certification required.
- Experience in basketball or other high-impact sports is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with sports performance technology and data-driven rehabilitation programs is a plus.
