Ice Crew Team Member: $17.50/hour

Position Summary: The Ice Crew Team Member supports the Arena Ice Operations Department by executing ice-related events and assisting in the preparation, maintenance, and upkeep of the ice surface. This role involves hands-on work with ice resurfacing equipment, event setup, and ensuring a safe and professional-quality ice environment for all users.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Skate in a coordinated formation to shovel snow and slush from the ice during television timeouts, overtime, and shootouts.
  • Complete ice clearing within 60–90 seconds to avoid interrupting gameplay.
  • Assist with lifting, moving, and securing hockey nets.
  • Support hat-trick clean-up and other on-ice tasks as needed.
  • Set up and tear down carpets, props, and equipment for pre-game, intermission, and post-game activities.
  • Assist with removing advertising decals from rink boards and perform light maintenance (e.g., cleaning water spots off the glass).
  • Replace and refill water bottles on home and visitor benches, penalty boxes, and goalie stations.
  • Ensure bench areas are clean, stocked, and game-ready.
  • Participate in in-game promotions, sponsor activations, and photo opportunities.
  • Represent the organization professionally in front of large crowds and during media appearances.
  • Arrive at the arena in full uniform and skates, at least one hour before puck drop.
  • Attend the mandatory Ice Operations pre-game meeting 45 minutes before game time.
  • Report any ice surface issues or rink board damage to Zamboni drivers and Ice Technicians.
  • Collaborate with the Ice Operations team to ensure the ice meets NHL and PWHL standards and is safe for play.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

Formal Education & Certification:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

 

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Advanced skating ability required. Skating ability will be assessed during the hiring process.
  • Experience playing high school hockey, post-high school experience preferred.
  • Experience working in an ice arena setting is preferred.

Work Conditions:

  • Required to work a minimum of four (4) games per month. One shift must be a PWHL Frost game, and two shifts must be weekend shifts. In addition, work on most of both the PWHL Frost and Wild playoff games.
  • Must be able to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, early mornings, weekends, and holidays, based on the event schedule.
  • Physical requirements include sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, lifting, grasping, etc. 
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to work in an ice arena involves a cooler work climate with wet and slippery surfaces.
  • Ability to skate, stand on skates, twist, grasp, and lift snow and slush.
  • Must have access to hockey skates that are in good condition.
  • Wear uniforms provided by the Minnesota Wild, Grand Casino Arena or TRIA Rink   
  • ID badges must be visible while in the facility (but not on the ice) 
  • Uniforms and ID badges should be worn for work purposes only.
