Accounting Manager

Job Summary:
The Accounting Manager leads the daily operations of the Accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and effective internal controls. This role oversees audits, budgeting, financial reporting, and accounting operations while partnering across the organization to improve processes, implement financial systems, and support sound financial decision-making.
Employees are expected to follow all Cincinnati Reds policies and procedures, serve as positive role models, and manage their workload effectively. This includes demonstrating flexibility, prioritizing tasks efficiently, and meeting departmental productivity standards.
Please Note: This position is based in Cincinnati, Ohio and requires employees to work onsite at our Cincinnati office. This is not a remote position.
Minimum Requirements:
Education | Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Experience |
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
- 3-5+ years of management and supervisory experience
- Experience leading annual audits and maintaining internal controls
- Experience managing budgeting and forecasting processes
- Experience overseeing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and general accounting functions, including month-end and year-end close process
Skills |
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles
- Strong audit, internal controls, and compliance experience
- Demonstrated project management skills and experience implementing process improvements
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed to meet business demands, including overtime during month-end, quarter-end, year-end, audit activities, and other critical deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
Education |
- CPA designation and/or a Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience |
- Experience in professional sports, entertainment, hospitality, or similar industries
- Experience with financial system upgrades and automation projects
- Experience managing nonprofit financial reporting and budgeting
Skills |
- NetSuite experience strongly preferred
- Experience with Concur expense management system Experience with Adaptive Planning
- Knowledge of AI tools and technologies that enhance accounting efficiencies and reporting processes
- Strong process improvement and change management capabilities
Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Duty | % of Time
Supervises Accounting staff, oversee daily accounting operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, cash management, reconciliations, and month-end close activities | 30%
Manage all aspects of the annual external audit, including audit preparation, coordination, schedules, documentation, and resolution of audit requests | 10%
Partner with Ticketing department to ensure accurate accounting, reporting, reconciliation, and implementation of ticket-related deals, promotions, and revenue programs | 15%
Assist with Budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and various financial reporting requirements | 10%
Oversee accounting and financial reporting for two nonprofit entities, including monthly financial statements, annual budgets, and annual review processes | 10%
Manage and enhance financial systems and automation initiatives, including AP automation, Concur administration, and future accounting system upgrades and | 15%
Develop, maintain, and monitor internal controls, accounting policies, and process improvements to ensure compliance and operational efficiency | 5%

This role reports directly to the VP of Finance/Controller

- Demonstrated leadership of accounting operations and personnel
- Successful management of complex audits and internal control environments
- Proven success leading financial system implementations and automation initiatives
- Advanced expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Development of strategic planning, business partnership, and organizational leadership skills
Physical Requirements:
- Occasionally required to sit
- Use hands, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear
- Light lifting/carrying to assist with event preparation
- May be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
