ABOUT US
The North Carolina Courage, a member of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), is seeking a Communications Intern to join our team for 2027 season apart of the ROAR Internship Program.  ROAR is designed to be a developmental experience, preparing interns for potential full-time roles within the club or the broader sports industry. 
  • Provide real opportunities to contribute to impactful organizational work, drive revenue and get real world experience within the professional sports industry. 
  • Support advancement through mentorship, workshops, professional exposure, networking events, and team building activities. 
  • Build readiness through tangible deliverables and portfolio quality projects  
ROAR Program Overview:
The 2027 ROAR internship program will run alongside the NC Courage and NWSL season.  The program will run from February 2027 – November 2027, including the summer/World Cup Break.  Interns will work Monday – Friday, along with occasional evening & weekend events, and Matchday Operations. This program is built for someone who wants more than exposure - it’s for those who want responsibility, real experience, and the opportunity to learn how a world-class women’s soccer club operates behind the scenes.
  • Assist with day-to-day departmental tasks and projects.
  • Conduct research and analyze data.
  • Prepare reports and presentations.
  • Participate in department/team meetings and planning sessions.
  • Provide administrative support as needed.
  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.
INTERNS WILL WORK ON-SITE IN OUR FRONT OFFICE IN RALEIGH NC

 About the Role 
The Communications Intern will support day-to-day operations and special projects within the Communications Department, contributing directly to the success of the Club throughout the season. This role is hands-on, fast-paced, and best suited for someone who is curious, proactive, and comfortable working in a dynamic environment. 
Interns are expected to bring a strong work ethic, a growth mindset, and a willingness to learn quickly while operating with professionalism and accountability. 

Key Responsibilities
Media Relations:  
  • Act as a liaison between the team and media outlets, managing requests, coordinating interviews, and fostering positive relationships.
Game Day Support:  
  • Contribute to the coordination of game-day media operations, including press box setup, credential destruction, and facilitating post-match interviews.
  • Attend home matches as available to do so, conduct live coverage of matches via Twitter and Instagram story.

Content Calendar:  
  • Collaborate on the development and maintenance of a comprehensive content calendar to guide our communications initiatives. 
  • Assist in development of social media strategy for assigned team(s)  
  • Execute strategy across all platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok)
Photography and Videography: 
  • Capture and edit compelling photos and videos during training sessions, matches, and special events for promotional and media use.
  • Collection of Imagn links, Dropbox, photos from staff and external sources.
Press Releases: 
  • Assist in drafting and distributing impactful press releases to local and national media outlets, highlighting the team’s milestones and achievements.
Analytics and Reporting:  
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators, providing insights into the effectiveness of our digital communications efforts.
Internship Qualifications:
  • At least a junior in a 4-year degree seeking program at an accredited college or university (For post-grad internships, must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field)
  • Strong interest in professional sports, particularly women's soccer.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or Google Workspace.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work on evenings and weekends, especially during game days 
Desired Skills (Not Required):
  • Current enrollment in, or recent graduation from, a relevant undergraduate or graduate program (e.g., Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or Sports Management) 
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills 
  • Proficiency in social media platforms and content management systems 
  • Basic photography and videography skills
