Job description
This Supervising Director role is responsible for the supervision of personnel and projects involving Remote and Event productions, as well as the direction of the department’s most complex and highest profile productions. The Supervising Director will work within the department to maintain the quality of presentations through oversight while providing direction across multiple departments through collaboration. In addition, will work in conjunction with Coordinating Producers to provide support and guidance on content philosophy and execution. The Supervising Director should possess strong production and technical knowledge, and demonstrate leadership qualities in all interactions and decisions. The Supervising Director will assist in the development of Directors, Associate Directors and Stage Managers.
Responsibilities:
• Oversight of multiple remote and REMI production projects.
• Collaborates with production partners to launch productions and maintain standards, plus identifies workflows to suit changing business needs.
• Organizes and leads meetings for assigned projects, both within and across departments, to develop production and operational strategies.
• Proficient with all aspects of set design, animation packages, show budgets and remote planning.
• Has expert ability to direct the broadest possible range of productions including ESPN’s highest profile shows.
• Responsible for staff oversight with concentration toward Associate Directors and Stage Managers.
• Provides consistent and comprehensive feedback to Directors, Associate Directors and Stage Managers.
• Establishes regular feedback and review sessions with all members of Directing.
• Participates in the weekly Directing management meeting.
• Leads teams to drive innovation and new workflows that embrace technology.
• Builds monthly schedules for Directors, Associate Directors and Stage Managers.
• Identifies, implements and tracks staff development opportunities.
• Contributes to the team’s recruitment and retention objectives.
• Holds staff accountable to maintain the Directing Department performance standards.
Qualifications:
• Minimum 7 years directing experience with demonstrated leadership and mentorship skills.
• In-depth knowledge and proficiency with live directing.
• In-depth knowledge and proficiency with production equipment and facilities.
• Strong ability to think and react quickly to rapidly changing situations in a high pressure environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated proficiency with all aspects of set design, animation packages, show budgets and remote planning.
• Appreciation of popular culture and assistance in defining ESPN viewer tastes.
• Ability to assess and evaluate job performance, leadership skills, directing skills, forward thinking.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Required Education:
• High school diploma
Preferred Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in broadcasting, communications, journalism or a closely related field.
