Develop and implement a data-driven engineering strategy, approach, and roadmap for Engineering needs (20%): Define and evolve engineering strategy aligned with business objectives, scalability goals, and long-term platform direction; Manage execution using Agile frameworks, including sprint planning, backlog prioritization, estimation, and delivery tracking; Analyze engineering velocity, capacity, and operational metrics, and make data backed recommendations to improve delivery efficiency and resource utilization; Contribute to technical planning and design discussions, evaluating short term versus long term tradeoffs in architecture and implementation; Identify risks, remove delivery bottlenecks, and provide direction when projects encounter technical or execution challenges. Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, inside and outside of Engineering, and collaborate to gather and present testing metrics and activities (30%): Partner closely with product, quality engineering, operations, infrastructure, and compliance teams to clarify requirements and align on technical constraints; Attend recurring meetings with operations, product, and infrastructure teams to expand and refine engineering playbooks and delivery practices; Gather, analyze, and present testing, quality, and operational metrics to inform readiness, risk, and release decisions; Advise technology leaders and product stakeholders on technical decisions that improve platform reliability, performance, and business value; Build and maintain working relationships with vendors and third party partners by participating in regular coordination meetings and alignment sessions as needed. Help development teams adhere to the principles, guidelines, and best practices of the engineering strategy (10%): Establish and enforce best practices with emphasis on security, reliability, observability, and maintainability; Lead code and design reviews to provide constructive feedback and ensure consistent engineering standards; Create and maintain internal processes for change management and version control; Mentor and coach engineers, reduce onboarding burden for new team members, and promote a culture of technical excellence and accountability; Proactively identify opportunities to simplify codebases and address architectural deficiencies. Develop a strong understanding of Fanatics Betting and Gaming (15%): Maintain a working understanding of core products, system behavior, and end user experience flows; Develop familiarity with product feature sets, platform capabilities, and long term roadmap objectives; Recommend technology capabilities and architectural improvements to support future enhancements, including feature expansion and cross product enablement; Build domain knowledge relevant to the industry, including applicable terminology, standards, and operational considerations. Remain current on technology and trends in engineering (10%): Stay informed on emerging software development practices, architectural patterns, and tooling; Evaluate new technologies and frameworks to determine applicability to current and future engineering initiatives; Contribute to continuous improvement of testability, operational excellence metrics, documentation, and development workflows. Occasionally travel to events and Bet Fanatics offices for various offsite and team meetings (15%): Participate in onsite meetings, planning sessions, and team building activities as required; Support production releases and initial launches by participating in validation, troubleshooting, and post release activities; Coordinate with internal teams and external partners during critical delivery or launch phases. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree or U.S. equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, plus 5 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer, Software Developer, or any occupation, job title, or position developing and implementing data-driven engineering strategies and roadmaps.
Must also have experience in the following: 5 years of professional experience developing backend services using Java including designing REST based APIs, implementing business logic, supporting concurrent workflows, and building modular or microservices based architectures that are scalable, maintainable, and independently deployable; 5 years of professional experience developing web-based user interfaces using JavaScript frameworks, including React or Angular, including building responsive layouts, managing client-side state, integrating with backend services, and ensuring performance and usability across supported environments; 5 years of professional experience developing user interface layers using HTML and CSS based technologies, including responsive layout design, cross browser compatibility, and styling using frameworks or preprocessors including Bootstrap, LESS, or SASS; 5 years of professional experience implementing real time data updates in web applications using WebSocket based communication and JSON message formats, including designing event driven data flows, synchronizing backend state with user interfaces, and ensuring low latency and reliable updates; 5 years of professional experience working with CI CD including Jenkins, or Docker, including participating in automated build, test, and deployment workflows, supporting release processes, and improving deployment reliability; 5 years of professional experience developing and supporting complex software platforms that combine software applications with external systems or devices, including understanding end to end system behavior, deployment constraints, and real-world operational considerations; 5 years of professional experience integrating software applications with external hardware or device driven systems, including designing integration interfaces, validating behavior through testing, and troubleshooting issues that arise from software interacting with non-software components; 5 years of professional experience operating within Agile software development environments, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, estimation, release coordination, and contributing to delivery reporting across cross functional teams; 5 years of professional experience collaborating with quality engineering teams throughout the software development lifecycle, including supporting test planning, participating in defect analysis, validating fixes, and contributing to overall product quality and release readiness; 5 years of professional experience supporting production releases and golive activities, including environment preparation, deployment validation, post release verification, and issue resolution during critical release windows; 5 years of professional experience collaborating with cross functional stakeholders including product management, operations, including gathering requirements, aligning on technical constraints, communicating progress, and addressing risks throughout delivery cycles; 5 years of professional experience evaluating existing systems and recommending technical improvements, including identifying scalability or maintainability gaps, proposing architectural or design enhancements, and aligning technical decisions with long term product direction.
