POSITION SUMMARY:
The 3-time WNBA Champions Los Angeles Sparks are seeking a Scouting Assistant, Basketball Operations (Seasonal) to support all areas of amateur and pro personnel scouting efforts. Areas of support within the department include managing documents and reports for each unique evaluation market, performing analysis to provide insights to support roster decisions, and becoming an expert evaluator and forecaster. This role requires collaboration within the scouting department as well as cross-functionally including Research, Strategy, Coaching, and Player Development. This position will report under the direction of the Assistant GM of Strategy and Insights. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Scouting department operations
  • Provide other scouts with logistical support including credentials/tickets and necessary game information.
  • Create and manage target lists and reports that determine who evaluators should scout and the associated scouting calendar.
  • Planning and execution of meetings related to draft and pro personnel decisions. Includes materials preparation, note-taking, and post-meeting assignments.
  • Ongoing maintenance of databases for recording scouting evaluations and intel. 

Evaluation of amateur and pro players
  • Assess individual player skillsets and project overall impact through both live scouting and film study.

Insights and analysis
  • Analyze objective and subjective data inputs to support personnel decisions.
  • Run scouting-related research projects in collaboration with the Research Department. 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Education & Certifications
  • No specific degree or technical background is required.

Work Experience
  • Prior experience in a basketball environment or a fast-paced environment where adaptability and being a self-starter are required.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • High-level understanding of the game of basketball, with a passion for player evaluation. This includes knowledge of advanced basketball statistics and player evaluation statistical models.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach with strong problem-solving ability. Curious and driven to explore innovation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to work unconventional hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel as required.

Preferred
  • Experience using video coding software (e.g. Sportscode) or software programming tools (e.g. R, Python, SQL) is a plus.

Compensation: $18.47/hr
