Job Description
You will be working on a fast paced, passionate and caring Sport Development Team. This team prides itself on creating the absolute best experience for the participants in our programs. We create positive feelings and lifelong memories associated with our teams with the goal of continuing to grow our dedicated fanbase. As the Coordinator, Sport Development Projects, you will plan and execute the Toronto FC & Toronto Argonauts Development programs, events and lead a team of hourly staff.
What you’ll be doing:
- Acting as the day-to-day contact for Soccer & Football Development programming: You will collaborate across departments for program integration (sponsorship, tickets, research & development, equity, diversity & inclusion, etc.). There are multiple priorities and considerations that go into everything that we do, and you will act as the linchpin to the whole operation. In addition to internal coordination, you will build and maintain relationships and strong communication channels with parents and the broader soccer & football community, including connections with clubs, the Ontario Soccer Association, the Ontario Soccer Association, Soccer Canada, MLS, Ontario Football, Toronto Flag Football and the Buffalo Bills.
- Leading the planning and execution of our Soccer & Football Development programs: This includes Coaches Open Houses, Soccer Camp, Football Camp, PA Day Programs and Clinic Series along with our Corporate & Community Partner events and MLS & CFL mandated events. You will also support MLSE Foundation & MLSE Launchpad events with programming and staff.
- Manage and track program budgets: You will be responsible for ensuring that expenditures for all programs and events are tracked and that we stick to our budgets. This will include proactive and frequent communication with the Finance Team.
- Recruit, train and manage a diverse team of hourly staff to deliver court & field programming: Our staff team determines our youth experience and ensuring that we hire enthusiastic, fun, knowledgeable staff and keeping them engaged is one of your top priorities.
- Managing our social and web presence: You will be responsible for updating and coordinating content for www.torontofcdevelopment.com, www.argosdevelopment.com using the LeagueApps platform and curating content for @tfcdevelopment and @argosdevelopment Instagram pages.
- Assist Sport Development colleagues with hockey and basketball initiatives as required: You are part of a “one team” approach. We help and support each other with the delivery of our programs across all our teams.
You’re a great fit for this job if:
- You have experience with detailed event and logistical planning: You have experience creating and delivering a youth camp or day program while managing a budget. You can work independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and are able to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines.
- You are an energy giver who can lead and is willing to be led: You have the ability to exercise empathy and kindness and do the right thing when no one is watching. You enjoy supporting others to give their best and appreciate opportunities to learn and grow.
- You have excellent written and oral communication, organizational and interpersonal skills: You are extremely organized and have excellent administrative skills, are proficient in MS Outlook, Word and Excel and are open-minded and quick to learn new software programs. Familiarity with LeagueApps is an asset.
- You are creative: Creativity is necessary in multiple ways: Are you running an event and one of your coaches doesn’t show up? You will need to come up with a creative solution on the spot to ensure that youth have a positive experience (the show must go on!). Is our website in need of a refresh? You will run point on updating it, coming up with content ideas, and refreshing our social media posts. Being a “do-er” (with creative flair) will serve you well in this role.
- You have a strong understanding of soccer & football and long-term athlete development models and ability to write age- stage- appropriate curriculum.
You can lead on-court programming with athletes ranging in ages, skills and abilities while focusing on FUN (!) and physical literacy. Yes, we want our drills and games to teach sport-specific skills, but we want the focus to be on having a good time.
- You have a G level driver’s license.
We work across the GTA and need to transport equipment, balls, bags, prizes, etc. from Point A to Point B. Having a license is a necessity for this job and being comfortable driving large SUVs and a 20ft cube truck is mandatory.
- Vulnerable Sector Check: We are working closely with youth and you will be required to obtain or show proof of a clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
