Position Summary

This role requires a hands-on technical professional with strong expertise in enterprise networking, broadcast infrastructure, structured cabling, and live event operations. The successful candidate will work closely with Broadcast Operations, Event Production, Building Operations, and external vendors to support the business and event-day technology systems.

A significant portion of this role will involve supporting live events, including Calgary Flames home games and other major events, where the individual will be expected to provide on-site technical support, troubleshooting, and operational readiness for both IT and broadcast systems.

 

Job Responsibilities

Network & Infrastructure Operations

  • Help design, deploy, configure, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless systems, and related services.
  • Support IP-based broadcast and media networks, ensuring reliability, performance, and redundancy.
  • Monitor network performance and proactively identify and resolve issues.
  • Perform firmware updates, patching, maintenance, and lifecycle management of network infrastructure.
  • Maintain network documentation, diagrams, standards, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in infrastructure projects, technology upgrades, and facility expansion initiatives.

 

Broadcast Technology Support

  • Support and maintain broadcast production systems and associated infrastructure.
  • Work closely with IT & Broadcast Operations teams to ensure reliable operation of live production environments.
  • Assist with deployment, configuration, and support of IT and broadcast networking technologies and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot issues involving video, audio, transport, timing, synchronization, and network connectivity.
  • Participate in planning and implementation of new IT & broadcast facilities, workflows, and technology platforms.
  • Coordinate with vendors, integrators, leagues, broadcasters, and event partners as required.

Event Support & Operations

  • Provide on-site support during Calgary Flames home games, concerts, and major events.
  • Perform pre-event testing and validation of critical technology systems.
  • Respond to technology incidents and outages.
  • Participate in event-day operational readiness planning and troubleshooting activities.
  • Support after-hours maintenance windows and event schedules as required.

Structured Cabling & Physical Infrastructure

  • Help support and maintain structured cabling systems and physical connectivity infrastructure.
  • Test, troubleshoot and maintain:
    • Single-mode fiber optic cabling
    • Multi-mode fiber optic cabling
    • Category cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A)
    • SDI infrastructure
    • SMPTE hybrid fiber systems
    • Broadcast patching systems
  • Coordinate cable management, labeling, documentation, and standards compliance.

Security & Reliability

  • Follow corporate cybersecurity, change management, and operational standards.
  • Support infrastructure resilience, redundancy, monitoring, and disaster recovery initiatives.
  • Assist with vulnerability remediation and patch management activities.
  • Ensure technology environments meet operational and security requirements.

Job Skills and Qualifications

  • Education & Experience

    • Degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in Information Technology, Computer Networking, Broadcast Engineering, or a related field.
    • Minimum 5 years of experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure.
    • Experience working in broadcast, media production, sports entertainment, venue operations, or live event environments is considered a strong asset.
    • Experience supporting mission-critical production or event technology systems.

    • Structured cabling standards
    • Video production and broadcast workflows
    • Network monitoring and troubleshooting tools
