THE POSITION
The Ice Crew are key team members, responsible for maintaining the ice surface during games, which includes clearing debris during media time-outs and assisting with on-ice promotions. Team members must be experienced skaters who are knowledgeable about hockey, interested in ice maintenance, and comfortable in front of large crowds in a professional NHL environment.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Completion of gameday checklist;
- Drill holes and set nets on ice prior to game and during intermissions
- Set up rugs and runners for anthem singers and special promotions on and off the ice
- Assist other staff with making repairs and adjustments to boards and glass
- Clear snow from ice during media timeouts of NHL, AHL and WHL hockey games
- Promptly communicate any problems, issues, or feedback to management
- Maintain and clean event level areas as well as players’ and officials’ areas;
- Assist entertainment staff with game day activity set-up, staging and clean up procedures
- Assist with non-ice events including concerts and other sporting events, to include but not limited to field of play/floor maintenance, emptying garbage’s, providing maintenance support, assisting with chair and barricade setup/teardown, responding to radio calls for in-event cleanup, and setting up specialized equipment such as lacrosse nets and game presentation props
- Actively participate in safety programs and follow policies
- Assist with safety checks
- All other duties as assigned
THE INDIVIDUAL
The ideal individual will have the following background:
- Strong communication skills and outgoing, positive personality; comfortable in front of large crowds
- Flexibility with your schedule and available to work a minimum of 8 shifts per month in-season
- Ability to lift 30 lbs. & work with tools, while on skates (shovels, scrapers, wheeled buckets)
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to adapt and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Maintain attentiveness to the game and what is happening both on and off the ice
- Strong team player with an ‘above-and-beyond’ work ethic and mentality
- MUST HAVE strong ice-skating experience; prior hockey or ringette playing experience preferred
- Ability to attend ON-ICE AUDITION and ORIENTATION to demonstrate skating skills and learn ice maintenance duties
CERTIFICATIONS
- High school diploma is considered an asset.
