General Description:
The Human Resources Coordinator supports the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources department for the Houston Rockets, Toyota Center, and Houston Comets. This role serves as a key point of contact for employees, candidates, and leaders while providing administrative and operational support across recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, HR compliance, employee engagement, and HRIS management. This position helps create exceptional employee experience while ensuring compliance with company policies and employment regulations.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
Recruitment & Talent Acquisition
  • Assist with the recruiting process from requisition through onboarding.
  • Partner with hiring managers to update and maintain job descriptions.
  • Post positions through recruiting platforms and monitor applicant activity.
  • Schedule interviews and coordinate candidate communications.
  • Conduct candidate pre-screening and assist with interview processes.
  • Serve as a contact for applicants and hiring managers.
  • Build and maintain relationships with colleges, universities, and community organizations to support internship and recruiting initiatives.
  • Track recruiting metrics to include time-to-fill and candidate pipeline activity.

Onboarding & Offboarding
  • Partner with HR Specialist on all onboarding activities for new hires.
  • Prepare candidate offer letters, onboarding packets, and employee communications.
  • Assist with new hire orientation and benefits enrollment processes.
  • Partner with IT and department leaders to ensure equipment, workspace, and system access are established before new employee start date.
  • Manage employee offboarding activities including exit documentation, system notifications, and employee file updates.

Employee Experience & Engagement
  • Assist with planning and execution of employee engagement initiatives, recognition programs, wellness activities, and special events.
  • Support employee communications and HR announcements.
  • Coordinate service award programs and new hire experience initiatives.
  • Help promote a positive workplace culture throughout the Houston Rockets, Toyota Center, and Houston Comets organizations.

HR Administration
  • Respond to employee questions in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate HR records and employee files.
  • Support payroll-related employee transactions and coordination with the payroll team as needed.
  • Maintain org charts monthly.
  • Assist with reporting, audits, and special projects.

Compliance & HR Systems
  • Maintain employee data within HRIS and recruiting systems.
  • Serve as a resource for employment verification, documentation, and records management.
  • Coordinate Form I-9 completion and compliance activities.
  • Assist with HR audits and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee and organizational information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of Human Resources experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of recruiting, onboarding, and HR compliance.
  • Experience working with HRIS, ATS, and payroll systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Experience in sports, entertainment, hospitality, or a fast-paced service environment is preferred.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and reach as needed.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move materials related to departmental events and onboarding activities.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and select event schedules as business needs require.
  • Ability to travel between company locations and event venues as needed.
