Position Summary
The Girls Hockey Director is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and oversight for the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Girls Hockey Program, serving players from 10U through 19U. This position will establish and execute the overall vision and development strategy for the girls program while ensuring a consistent and competitive experience across all teams.
In addition to program leadership responsibilities, the Girls Hockey Director will serve as a Head Coach for a Pens Elite Girls team, with the specific team assignment determined based on program needs and the candidate’s experience.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Player Development
- Provide overall vision, leadership, and direction for the Pens Elite Girls Hockey Program.
- Work with our Director of Player and Coach Development on developing and implementing a comprehensive player development philosophy focused on individual growth and team success. Oversee Individual Development Plans for each girls’ team.
- Serve as a Head Coach for an assigned Pens Elite Girls team.
- Serve as the primary recruiter for all Girls National Bound teams
- Facilitate practices, training sessions, and other development opportunities necessary to support player and team success.
- Collaborate with all Girls Head Coaches to ensure a consistent and cohesive coaching and development strategy throughout the program.
- Facilitate the coaching roster for all Girls teams – Head and Assistant Coaches
- Identify opportunities to enhance the overall player experience and continued development of athletes within the program.
- Develop and oversee all Girls teams home and away game schedules in coordination with program and facility needs.
- Assist with facility-based skill development programs, including group lessons, camps, clinics, and team training sessions.
- Identify opportunities to expand and enhance hockey programming for female athletes.
Recruitment & College Advancement
- Actively promote Pens Elite players to college coaches, scouts, and other hockey organizations.
- Build and maintain relationships with college coaches, scouts, professional hockey personnel, and other industry professionals.
- Recruit local, national, and international players to build competitive Pens Elite Girls teams.
- Assist players and families with the college hockey recruiting and advancement process.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Past PWHL, College, Junior or National Bound coaching experience
- Proven record of player advancement
- Relationships within the hockey industry
- Ability to breakdown video (Instat, HUDL, FastScout)
- Ability to work with male and female players of all ages and abilities
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively lead in a team environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Professional mindset with the ability to solve problems quickly and effectively
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Power Point & Outlook)
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Shares development first philosophy
- Valid USA Hockey Coaching Certification
