Position Summary:
This position sits within the NBA Social & Digital Content team and is responsible for delivering best-in-class, live game publishing across the NBA’s social and digital platforms during live events and tentpole moments.
The Game Night Publishing Lead is a key leader within Content Command, the NBA’s Game Night Publishing operation, overseeing the publishing function and driving game-time strategy through real-time decision-making, execution, and content optimization.
This individual is an experienced digital content leader with deep expertise in live sports storytelling, social platforms, and audience engagement. They thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure environments and have a strong instinct for identifying high-impact moments, setting publishing priorities, and coordinating cross-functional teams in real time.
Major Responsibilities:
Lead Game Night Publishing Strategy & Execution
Lead game night publishing team across NBA social and digital platforms, ensuring timely, accurate, and high-impact content delivery during live events
Direct live publishing decisions, balancing speed, editorial judgment, and brand voice
Identify and prioritize key moments, storylines, and trends to maximize engagement and reach
Oversee Content Command Publishing
Manage game night workflows and communication across publishing and content
Make critical publishing decisions in real-time and align with leadership when needed, while owning escalation protocols for sensitive, breaking, or high-visibility moments
Drive Cross-Functional Coordination
Partner with content leads, social producers, broadcast/production teams, and channel leads to execute run-of-show plans
Connect pre-game planning with in-game execution to ensure cohesive, real-time storytelling across platforms
Collaborate cross-functionally with Social, Digital, Partnerships, and Marketing teams
Manage Third-Party Amplification & Rights
Oversee third-party content sourcing, amplification, and UGC rights management in real time
Identify opportunities to extend reach through creators, teams, and media partners
Team Leadership & Development
Lead and mentor a team of game night publishers, overseeing performance during live coverage
Foster a high-performance culture focused on collaboration, quality, speed, and editorial excellence
Required Skills/Knowledge:
8+ years of experience leading social media, digital publishing, or newsroom-style content operations in sports
Expert knowledge of the NBA, its players, storylines, and fan culture
Expert knowledge of social platforms, emerging trends, and audience behavior, with the ability to translate insights into strategic direction
Exceptional editorial judgment with a proven ability to make high-stakes, real-time decisions in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
Exceptional communication and leadership skills in fast-paced environments
Ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously with strong attention to detail
Extensive experience collaborating cross-functionally with content, production, partnerships, marketing, and external partners
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays aligned with the NBA calendar
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Media, Marketing, or related field preferred
Salary Range:
$120,000 - $160,000
