The Athletic Performance Coach oversees and coordinates the athletic performance services for the Austin Spurs (NBA G League). This full-time position is responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring individualized athletic performance programs while supporting return-to-play, sports science, nutrition, and player monitoring initiatives to optimize player health, performance, availability, and long-term development.
What You’ll Do:
Design, implement, supervise, and document individualized strength and conditioning programs, movement preparation, warm-ups, recovery sessions, and on-court athletic development activities for Austin Spurs players.
Work collaboratively each day with the Austin Spurs Head Athletic Trainer to ensure alignment of athletic performance programs, continuity of care, and consistency with the standards, philosophy, and processes of the organization.
Coordinate the day-to-day athletic performance management of Austin Spurs players.
Facilitate sports science data collection and entry into the organization’s online data management system.
Assist the San Antonio Spurs Director of Performance Nutrition with the implementation of nutrition, hydration, supplementation, snacks, and fueling strategies for Austin Spurs players.
Coordinate athletic performance logistics including performance equipment, supplements, recovery resources, weight room operations, player testing, and team travel preparation.
Collaborate closely with the Austin Spurs medical staff and coaching staff to develop integrated, evidence-based performance plans that optimize player health, availability, athletic development, and seamless transitions between the Austin Spurs and San Antonio Spurs.
Support Basketball Operations throughout the year, including training camp, pre-draft workouts, Summer League, free agent workouts, and other basketball activities as assigned.
Promote continuous improvement by implementing evidence-based athletic performance practices, contributing to departmental projects, supporting educational initiatives, and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning throughout the Player Performance & Wellness Department.
Who You Are:
Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) required.
Master's degree in Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Sports Science, Biomechanics, or related field preferred.
Minimum 3 years of experience working in collegiate, G League, or professional basketball.
Expert knowledge of strength and conditioning principles, athletic development, motor learning, and basketball performance.
Experience implementing athlete monitoring technologies (e.g., LPS, force plates, timing systems, wellness platforms, and other performance monitoring tools).
Experience with Athlete Management Systems and performance data collection.
Familiarity with sports science technologies and nutrition implementation in elite sport environments is strongly preferred.
Ability to collect, manage, interpret, and communicate athlete monitoring data while maintaining high standards of data quality and operational consistency.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated coaching, organizational, and project management abilities.
Ability to work effectively within a small, highly collaborative interdisciplinary performance team while contributing to the broader objectives of the player performance and wellness group.
Ability to work independently while coordinating multiple responsibilities in a high-performance environment.
